Fatal car crash near Glenbrook

Two cars collided on Highway 50 near Glenbrook at 9:40 p.m. Friday, January 16, leaving a Los Angeles man dead.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers investigating the crash say a Silver 2009 Toyota Corolla, driven by Carlos Ortega Gomez of Mexico, was traveling eastbound. A white 2014 Subaru Impreza driven by 59-year-old Carson City resident Virgilio Ballesteros was traveling westbound in the slow lane.

The Corolla crossed over the centerline and began to rotate. As it rotated, it entered the westbound travel lanes directly in front of the Subaru. With its front, the Subaru struck the right side of the Corolla. Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels blocking the westbound slow lane of Highway 50.

Drivers of both vehicles were uninjured in the crash. The right front passenger of the Toyota Corolla, 36-year-old Los Angeles resident Aquiles Molero, succumbed to his injuries sustained during the course of the crash.

The westbound slow lane of Highway 50 was shut down for several hours while the crash scene was investigated.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The road conditions at the time of the crash were noted as being wet and icy.
