Visitor from Thailand identified as victim in Lake Tahoe head-on crash

The fatal head-on collision in Lake Tahoe on Highway 50 near Cave Rock Monday is the result of a drunk driver according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

On June 26 at approximately 4:39 p.m., a black 2015 VW Passat driven by a 40-year-old female resident of Carson City was traveling eastbound on the highway at a curve. She crossed over the double yellow line and into westbound traffic where she hit a black 2017 Chrysler minivan head-on.

Inside the minivan were six occupants. In the front seat was Sranthon Bunnag, a 52-year-old female visiting from Thailand. She died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The other five people in the van were transported to Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Passat's driver was transported to a Reno Hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She has not yet been identified. When she is released from the hospital, she will be booked into the Douglas County jail for DUI and other related charges.
