Chain controls in place around the Sierra as first phase of storm hits Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Road controls are up around the Sierra roadways as the first phase of weekend storms comes through Lake Tahoe. A Winter Storm Watch is in place until 10:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10.

There will be a break in the snow this morning with activity forecast to start again at 1:00 p.m.

During the day Saturday expect a high of 29. It will be breezy with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible. Tonight there will be a low of 24 and it will become very windy with a southwest wind 30 to 40 mph, with gusts as high as 70 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 11 to 17 inches possible.

On Sunday, mainly before 1 pm., windy and snowy with additional accumulation of 3-5 inches of snow. Updated hourly forecasts show most of that snow before sunrise. A high of 25. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Less than 1/2 an inch of snow during the evening with a low of 9.
