Winter birds of the region discussed Tuesday at Lake Tahoe Environmental Center

Event Date:
February 12, 2013 - 6:00pm

Migratory birds are commonly thought of as only summer visitors to the northern latitudes, but there are some migratory birds that can only be found in the Lake Tahoe area during winter.

There are also birds that have lost their way and end up in unexpected areas during the winter. Learn what visiting birds to look for in winter, where they came from, and why winter is a good time for them to be in the area, whether you are searching in the Tahoe Basin, Sierra Valley, or Carson Valley.

Kirk Hardie will present an evening talk on these avian visitors to the area on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences on the Sierra Nevada College campus. Program begins at 6 p.m.

Presenter: Kirk Hardie received his Master of Science in Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he developed a four-week high school curriculum on the ecology of the Great Basin. He has been an environmental educator in Idaho, Oregon, California, and Nevada, highlighting the beauty of birds in the natural world. Kirk also teaches Field Ornithology courses at Sierra Nevada College.
