A 28-year old South Lake Tahoe man died after being hit head on by a suspected drunken driver on Friday night near Chiapa Drive and Highway 50 in Meyers.
David Earl Baker was a passenger in a Ford truck driven by his sister, Ginger Baker, when it was hit by a Ford Expedition driven by Jonathan R. Hooker of El Dorado Hills. Hooker was intoxicated when his vehicle crossed over painter double yellow lines according to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) press release.
When the Expedition crossed into eastbound traffic, Ginger Baker tried to turn her vehicle to the left to avoid Hooker's SUV, but the passenger side of the truck was hit head-on.
David Baker was taken to Renown Hospital in Reno, where he died of his injuries. Hooker suffered major injuries in the crash and was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital.
Ginger Baker, 43 and from South Lake Tahoe, was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.
