Chain controls and road closures around Lake Tahoe and in the Sierra

Its a snowy one this morning! If you must be on the roads, drive with care. Here is a road report for 8:00 a.m. Friday, March 16:

Highway 50 from Meyers to 3,000 ft level at Camino - R2 - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels. (Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas).

Highway 50 in Nevada from Stateline to Carson City - R1 - Chains or Snow Tires Required

Interstate 80 - R2 from Alta to CA/NV state line - (8:23 a.m. update, 80 is closed from Applegate to CA/NV state line) Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels. (Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas). Trucks are currently being turned around due to issues over Donner Pass.

State Route 89 at Emerald Bay is closed from Bliss State Park to Ebrights

State Route 89 from Meyers to Hope Valley - R2 - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels. (Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas).

State Route 89 from Tahoe City to Truckee - R1 - Chains are required on all vehicles except passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks under 6,000 pounds gross weight and equipped with snow tires on at least two drive wheels. Chains must be carried by vehicles using snow tires. All vehicles towing trailers must have chains on one drive axle. Trailers with brakes must have chains on at least one axle

State Route 237 Kingsbury Grade to Foothill Road - R1 - Chains or Snow Tires Required

State Route 88 - R2 - Chains Required, All Vehicles Except 4-Wheel Drive with Snow Tires except for: CARSON SPUR: Closed due to Heavy Snow No Estimated Time of Opening

State Route 28 both in CA - R-1 Chains are required on all vehicles except passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks under 6,000 pounds gross weight and equipped with snow tires on at least two drive wheels.
