Earth Day Celebrated in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday

Event Date:
April 26, 2014 - 10:00am

South Lake Tahoe will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 26th at Bijou Community Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Earth Day was started in 1970 after peace activist John McConnell spoke at a UNESCO conference in San Francisco, calling for a day to honor the earth and call for peace. It is now celebrated in 192 countries.

The South Tahoe Earth Day celebration recognizes and promotes our region’s unique beauty while educating the public about local environmental issues.

The family friendly event will feature demonstrations on recycling and composting, alternative energy, sustainability, and reducing our ecological footprint.

There will be local live music with the Sierra Drifters, a special performance by Bijou Children’s Circus, a Kid Zone where recycle-themed arts and crafts will be created, face painting, and a wide array of education booths and local vendors.

The El Dorado County Library will be hosting a book swap during the event.

Local food, including Kiwani’s BBQ, and crafts will be available for purchase.
