Airport Way renamed "Lisa Maloff Way" in honor of her numerous contributions

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In honor of Mrs. Lisa Maloff's numerous contributions to our community, today the South Lake Tahoe City Council officially renamed a street after her, and issued a proclamation.

In this proclamation, the City extended to Lisa and Robert "Bob" Maloff their appreciation and gratitude for the numerous donations made to the local community. Her philanthropic donations have forever changed the community and her donations
throughout the medical, education, field sports, and family services will touch generations of Lake Tahoe residents.

Here are some of those donations made: $10M to Barton Health for the Robert Maloff Center for Orthopedics and Wellness, $5.8M to Lake Tahoe Community College for the Lisa Maloff University Center, $3M to Whittel High School for their track and football field, $3M to the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club for half of their new facility, $500K to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care for the building of their new bear enclosures, $390K to each South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District for new rescue boats, $280K to Lake Valley Fire for a new training tower, $225K to Tahoe Youth and Family Services, $200K to the South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association for a new police dog, $225 to the El Dorado County Community Foundation for use by numerous organizations, $200K for the historic Olympic track restoration at South Tahoe Middle School, $125K to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for canine support, and tens of thousands of dollars to numerous other organizations inluding South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, Sierra-at-Tahoe development league, Tahoe Arts Project, Live Violence Free, Tahoe Douglas Rotary, AVID at South Tahoe High, Heavenly Ski Foundation, Family Resource Center and Epic Curling ice project.

Besides the proclamation, the City unanimously approved the renaming of Airport Road to Lisa Maloff Way. There was no formal policy in South Lake Tahoe to rename streets, and the process began 18 months ago when Jeff Tillman of South Tahoe Refuse and a board member of the Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club brought the request to the City.

Many in the community wanted a more central street to bear Lisa's name, but the multi-year process required by the U.S. Post Office led the City to select a more timely location at Airport Road.

Tillman accepted a pink Lisa Maloff Way sign to give to Lisa who is also known as the "Angel of Tahoe." The actual sign that goes up will not be pink, but the special one was made in her favorite color.
