Reports of reckless driver in South Lake Tahoe leads to arrest of felon

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received numerous calls from the public on Tuesday evening at approximately 5:00 p.m., alerting them to a reckless driver in a Honda running stop lights and speeding on Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

As officers responded and attempted to locate the vehicle and its driver they got a report of a Honda crashing into another vehicle in a driveway near the 900 block of Macinaw Rd.

SLTPD officers responded to that area, found the crashed vehicle but no suspect. The victims of the collision said the suspect had taken off into the woods and meadow off of Reaves Street, but not before he threatened them with a knife and a gun.

No one was injured but officers quickly established a perimeter and deployed a K-9 unit into the wooded area where the suspect was last seen, but they couldn’t find him. They also sent their drone up into the air above the river and meadow in order to locate the suspect who was considered a threat to public safety.

Calls out to neighboring agencies for air support to locate the suspect were turned down due to the weather and wind.

In the meantime, SLTPD was issued a warrant for the arrest of the suspect, 44-year-old Michael Henson of South Lake Tahoe. Due to the nature of the early evening's events, the SLTPD SWAT Team went to Henson's home in the 2600 block of Lake Tahoe Blvd. around 10:00 p.m. When they arrived they found the suspect inside and arrested him.

Henson was booked into the El Dorado County jail on assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and felon in possession of a firearm. His bail has been set at $150,000.
