Blue Shield of El Dorado Hills’ IT Shared Services division offered its community “Day of Giving” services to benefit the Food Bank of El Dorado County. About 50 volunteers arrived at the Food Bank warehouse Tuesday to sort and bag food for three hours, racking up more than 130 hours in volunteer services. In the days leading up to their “Day of Giving”, Blue Shield employees hosted a department wide food drive bringing in 230 pounds of food for El Dorado County’s at-risk population.
Food Bank Communications and Development Director, Carey Fong says “The energy and compassion shown by Blue Shield employees was both a refreshing and rewarding experience. Volunteers hustled and bustled to make the most of their time at the Food Bank and the end result was amazing. Blue Shield employees provided an invaluable service to our community while offering a team building exercise that was evident in how well they communicated and worked together. We are honored to be chosen by Blue Shield of El Dorado Hills’ IT Shared Services division for their “Day of Giving” and are excited to continue working with this group and many others at Blue Shield of El Dorado Hills in the near future.”
When asked about their experience at the Food Bank, David Bencomo a Blue Shield of El Dorado Hills’ IT Shared Services employee said “It reminds us of how fortunate we are and it’s fulfilling to know that each of us can make a difference for our neighbors that might not be in the same situation.”
The El Dorado County Food Bank supplies food to many agencies in South Lake Tahoe including Christmas Cheer, Page & Sage, the Senior Plaza and Senior Center, Kelly Ridge and Bread & Broth.
El Dorado County is a very giving community and the food bank said they look forward to working with many more organizations throughout the year.
