Modified and successful Breakfast with Santa held at Heavenly Village

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With most of the Heavenly Holidays events canceled at the Heavenly Village this year, one event was still able to be held - the annual Breakfast with Santa.
The breakfast, moved outside this year due to COVID-19, was held each Saturday in December with the guest stars, Santa and Mrs. Claus. A limited number of tickets were available and each breakfast sold out.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Food Bank of El Dorado County is looking for volunteers to help distribute food to individuals in need on August 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in South Lake Tahoe.
Distribution will be located at St.Theresa's Catholic Church parking lots located at 1041 Lyons Avenue. Volunteers will be bagging up fresh produce and pushing shopping carts full of food to the recipient's vehicles.

The El Dorado County Food Bank's mobile pantry will be in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, July 22 and they are looking for volunteers to assist with handing out food to the community.
They will be in the parking lot of St. Theresa Church at 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the public, but need volunteers starting at 9:00 a.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Once again, Vail Resorts' CEO Rob Katz and his wife Elana Amsterdam are giving back to the communities where their employees live and where their company operates.
Today, they announced a donation of more than $2.5 million to provide immediate support to those areas as all contend with the severe impacts of COVID-19.
Immediate emergency relief grants will total $1.5 million and will be distributed to communities including South Lake Tahoe.
Family Resource Center “Bookworks” celebrates 27 years serving South Lake Tahoe community

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Family Resource Center (FRC) has been operating the used book store "Bookworks" in the South Lake Tahoe community for the past 27 years.
The nonprofit's store is currently located in the Lakeview Plaza, 3330 Lake Tahoe Blvd # 9, South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Their current hours are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Through the generous support of the local community with donations of books and the volunteers who manage the store, there are currently over 5000 books that cover over 160 genres for sale.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thanks to recent snowfall and with the Thanksgiving holiday in mind, Sierra-at-Tahoe will be running lifts a day early, on Friday, November 29, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a pre-Opening Day event.
Lift tickets will be available for purchase at ticket windows for just $10, with half of all proceeds to be donated to the Food Bank of El Dorado County.
Operations will be limited, with Easy Rider Express and Rock Garden scheduled to spin, conditions permitting.

Ruby Award - An award created in honor of the first Soroptimist Federation President, Ruby Lee Minar. The gemstone ruby is associated with wisdom, importance, vitality, strength, power, and love. This year's recipient is Amy Jackson, someone who is always working for the future of Tahoe's youth in education, sports, and life

The Food Bank of El Dorado County starts their seasonal stops in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, May 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the parking lot of St. Theresa's Church.
They will bring their Farmer's Market on wheels to those in the community who are in need of food, and will come on the 4th Wednesday of the month through October, all at the same time of 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County will return to South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, May 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the parking lot of St. Theresa's Catholic Church.
Bags of emergency supplemental groceries will be distributed to qualified recipients. The Mobile Food Pantry makes stops in remote areas of the county from SLT to Placerville. While in town they will also stop by the Family Resource Center and Bread & Broth to drop off food supplies to those agencies.

Hosting their bi-monthly Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment, Kirkwood Mountain Resort sent a great crew from their Mountain Operations team to help B&B volunteers at the Monday Meal on March 13th. The Kirkwood team led by Tom Fortune included Kelly Keith, Reid and Mattie Devine, and Mike Niccoli and his daughter Iris. Thanks to Vail EpicPromise grant funding, Kirkwood hosts six Adopt A Days a year providing nutritious and filling meals to many hungry members of our community.

In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, Susan Glasson will be holding a yoga practice on March 1 to raise funds for Bread & Broth 4 Kids, the program that supplies over 120 backpacks full of food weekly to students in need in the South Lake Tahoe community.
"Celebrate the wisdom and silliness of Dr. Seuss in this Yoga class that is for all ages," said Glasson. "Bring the kids and grandma too, all you need is your willingness to have some fun!" Beginners are welcome.

On August 15, Bread & Broth served 125 nutritious meals at St. Theresa Grace Hall to those in our community who struggle with hunger. Thanks to the generosity of Friends of Temple Bat Yam, the dinner’s Adopt A Day sponsor, the diners enjoyed a tasty Mexican casserole prepared by B&B’s amazing cooks. The dinner guests also were provided with bags filled with dairy products, fruits, vegetables, breads and pastries provided by donations from local businesses and B&B donors.

This was Robert’s 3rd sponsorship dinner in as many years and he has become a veteran B&B helper. The mobile food pantry from El Dorado County Food Bank will be in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, July 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the American Legion parking lot. For over 15 years the non-profit has brought food to the South Shore. Besides the food bags from local residents in need, the food bank also delivers to several non-profits in town including Senior Plaza and Bread and Broth.
During the summer and fall, extra fresh produce is added to the distributions.

A very energetic and outgoing volunteer team from Vail Resort’s Retail Group joined the Bread & Broth volunteers to donate their time to serve the April 11 evening dinner at St. Theresa Grace Hall. Bread & Broth, a non-profit, all volunteer organization whose mission is to ease hunger in the South Tahoe Community, would like to recognize the Heavenly Ski Patrol for hosting their second “Adopt A Day of Nourishment” this year. Heavenly’s Ski Patrol organization provided the funding for the 138 meals served at B&B’s Monday evening dinner on February 29th. Several South Lake Tahoe projects were awarded this week by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) as being the "Best in the Basin" for demonstrating exceptional planning, design, and compatibility with Lake Tahoe’s environment and communities.
The projects that were recognized upgraded highways, built new bike trails, improved water quality, restored environmentally-sensitive areas, remodeled blighted commercial buildings, and created defensible space for better wildfire protection.

Once a month, the Food Bank of El Dorado County visits South Lake Tahoe with a mobile food pantry to distribute emergency supplemental groceries to those who need it most. Volunteers will be assisting in handing out food and signing people in. Electrofishing project helps both hungry and Lake Tahoe nearshore

Scientists have found a way to put some of the 51,000 pounds of harvested fish to good use at the same time they are ridding Lake Tahoe of invasive species.
In the first three years of a cooperative pilot program between the University of Nevada Reno and California Fish and Wildlife, unwanted fish have been donated to needy families.

Free Farmer's market for South Lake Tahoe residents in need

The Food Bank of El Dorado County, in partnership with California Emergency Food Link, is holding a free Farmer's Market for the South Lake Tahoe community. During their stop in town last month, almost 200 families received food.
On Wednesday, June 24, a truck full of food including fresh produce will be at the American Legion Hall located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The El Dorado County Food Bank was in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday, delivering both food from their mobile pantry and fresh produce from California Emergency Food Link.
A line of people had formed at the American Legion prior to their opening at 10 p.m. Volunteers from St Theresa’s Bread and Broth came out to help and, for the first time, U-Turn 4 Christ from Pollock Pines joined the collective outreach as volunteers to help others.
