SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With many people and families struggling to keep food on the table during the pandemic, the South Lake Tahoe community is providing several weekly options as well as special days. Community support of volunteer time and donations has been overwhelming during these trying times.

The Nevada Food Bank will be at the parking lot of the American Legion with Christmas Cheer. The truck with fresh produce will be there from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The El Dorado County Food Bank will be returning to South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, July 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Those in need of food supplies can stop by their new location, the parking lot of St. Theresa Catholic Church located at 1041 Lyon Avenue. They stop there the 4th Wednesday of each month at the same time, same spot.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County will be stopping by South Lake Tahoe on August 24 with their truck full of fresh fruit and vegetables and other emergency food supplies for those in need.

There is one allocation of supplies available for each qualifying household at the pantry distribution which will take place at the American Legion Hall at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd. from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

"We're not your grandma's Goodwill," said Joseph Mendez, President/CEO of Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada as the ribbon was cut in the company's newest store in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday.

The El Dorado County Food Bank will be making their monthly stop in South Lake Tahoe at the American Legion Hall on Wednesday, January 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Residents in need of emergency food supplies can come to the hall, located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County is in need of ten volunteers on Wednesday, August 26th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to help with their mobile food pantry. Once a month, the Food Bank of El Dorado County visits South Lake Tahoe with a mobile food pantry to distribute emergency supplemental groceries to those who need it most. Volunteers will be assisting in handing out food and signing people in. The El Dorado County Food Bank was in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday, delivering both food from their mobile pantry and fresh produce from California Emergency Food Link.

A line of people had formed at the American Legion prior to their opening at 10 p.m. Volunteers from St Theresa’s Bread and Broth came out to help and, for the first time, U-Turn 4 Christ from Pollock Pines joined the collective outreach as volunteers to help others.

From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the truck will be in the Legion's parking lot located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd. South Lake Tahoe.

The EL Dorado County Food Bank will be in South Lake Tahoe on Friday to give away turkeys to families selected by local agencies.

In partnership with Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Rotarians, SLT Fire Department, Tahoe Sierra Kiwanis Club and the SLT Police Department, the Food Bank will give away 150 turkeys.

Families were signed up to receive the turkeys by St. Theresa’s Bread & Broth and the Family Resource Center of South Lake Tahoe. They will get the gift on Friday, November 21 at the American Legion.

All South Lake Tahoe members of the Hunger Response Network will be meeting on Wednesday to discuss the results a hunger study conducted in the area last spring.

The El Dorado County Food Bank will be hosting the October 22 meeting at St. Theresa's Bread & Broth at 9:30 a.m. They will discuss the results of the South Lake Tahoe focused Hunger Study to truly understand the community’s needs and the best ways to allocate the Food Bank’s resources in Tahoe based on these results.

Emergency groceries will be available to qualified South Lake Tahoe residents on Wednesday, July 23rd The Food Bank of El Dorado County's Mobile Food Pantry and Free Farmers Market will be in town to distribute food at the American Legion Hall located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Food Bank will have lots of fresh produce and emergency supplemental groceries to feed South Lake Tahoe’s at-risk population. One allocation per household will be available.

Blue Shield of El Dorado Hills’ IT Shared Services division offered its community “Day of Giving” services to benefit the Food Bank of El Dorado County. About 50 volunteers arrived at the Food Bank warehouse Tuesday to sort and bag food for three hours, racking up more than 130 hours in volunteer services. In the days leading up to their “Day of Giving”, Blue Shield employees hosted a department wide food drive bringing in 230 pounds of food for El Dorado County’s at-risk population.

The South Lake Tahoe community was treated to 320 free books on Wednesday night as part of World Book Night.

Volunteers from Friends of the Library gave books out at beaches, bus stops, the El Dorado County Food Bank truck, recreation center, Senior Center, Juvenile Treatment Center, Tahoe Senior Plaza and various other places around town. They announced on Facebook that they were heading out, but didn't disclose locations until after the books were distributed.

"We enjoyed reaching out to others in our community by sharing a special book," said volunteer Lynne Brosch.
