A summer food program will be held at the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Mondays through Fridays, as is open to all kids 18 and under, even if not enrolled in their summer camp activities.
About 55 percent of the students in South Lake Tahoe receive free or reduced breakfasts and lunches during the school year, but when summer roles around, the school programs are not available.
This year, the Boys and Girls Club will once again offer breakfasts to all kids from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m., both free of charge until August 26.
The program is funded through the Summer Food Service Program, a USDA/CDE funded program. The purpose of the Summer Food Service Program is to ensure that children receive a healthy meal during the summer when school is out.
The meals take place at 1100 Lyons Ave. Advanced notice of attendance is appreciated to ensure enough food is prepared.
