LTCC Summer Classes Emphasize Fun New Ways to Learn

Lake Tahoe Community College’s summer lineup includes many brand-new classes that educate and enlighten while entertaining learners. Students can earn college credits while studying a variety of subjects, from the roots of rock n’ roll to the fundamentals of food and wine pairings. Classes begin July 1, and registering early guarantees students a spot.

Here is a sampling of new summer classes LTCC is offering:

Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘N’ Roll: COM 131T

This class takes students back to the roots of rock ‘n’ roll, covering Elvis, the British Invasion, Woodstock, and many other groundbreaking musicians while exploring the cultural impact of the music that changed the world.

Beginning MIDI Applications: MUS 118A
This course offers hands-on experience in the areas of music production, publishing, performing, structure, and orchestration using MAC music recording software such as (Apple) Garage Band and Logic and (Avid) Pro Tools and Sibelius, as well as Guitar Pro, MOTU Digital Performer and others.

Criminal Procedures: CRJ104
Beginning this summer, the traditional high-quality face-to-face criminal justice courses will be augmented with online offerings. Criminal Procedures (CRJ104) will be online in an accelerated, 4-week format. The course begins July 1 and ends July 26 and is part of the AS-Transfer degree recognized throughout California. Additional online offerings will follow in the fall, winter, and spring quarters.

Real Estate Sales License: RES151, RES152, RES155, RES160
Every course needed for a real estate salesperson’s license can be taken through LTCC. This summer, LTCC is offering four real estate courses online: California Real Estate Principles (RES151), Real Estate Appraisal (RES152), Real Estate Practice (RES155), and California Property Management (RES160). Classes run July 1 through August 9.

Preparing for Success in the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy: FIR191HG
This summer course will help students to obtain a realistic preview of the academic and physical challenges involved in being a student in the ever-popular Fire Academy program at LTCC.

Pharmacology of Over-the-Counter Medications and Herbal Supplements: CHM131B
Learn directly from a pharmacist about how drugs act on the body. Students will gain valuable consumer awareness about the pharmacology of various medications and herbal supplements.

Food & Wine: CUL226
Food and wine together; what could be better? Spend Monday and Wednesday evenings meeting other students who share your passion for food and wine.

Branding: The Critical Success Driver for the 21st Century: BSN191BE
Branding is one of the most misunderstood concepts, but one of the most critical assets needed to effectively drive profits with any product or service. Local marketing and branding expert Tracy Owen Chapman will help students navigate the essentials of developing a strong, intact branding effort to achieve business success.

Sand Volleyball: PEF146E
America’s most beautiful college course is available at LTCC this summer! Zephyr Cove provides the backdrop to this competitive class where you’ll learn the ins and outs of this popular sport. Great exercise and gorgeous sunsets! Wednesdays from 6pm to 9pm starting July 10th.
