South Lake Tahoe parade brings out visitors and the community

"This is fantastic," said South Lake Tahoe Mayor Wendy David. "We get to show our visitors what a great sense of community we have."

David was talking about the City's 4th of July parade through town Monday, from the Y to Al Tahoe Blvd. The whole parade route was filled with people, from families with young children to grandparents and cyclists who pedaled up to view. Over 50 vehicles participated with corvettes carrying local veterans and dignitaries, cheer, dance and football teams riding floats and walking/dancing the whole route, a Mariachi band, cyclists, law enforcement, Historical Society and even Smokey Bear.

After the parade wrapped up there was a festive barbeque at the American Legion where dozens of people enjoyed burgers and hotdogs, corn, salad and ice cream.

"The City extends their gratitude to the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe for their volunteer efforts to help put on the parade," was posted on the City's website.

A GoFundMe account has been established to raise funds for the local American legion Post 795 at www.gofundme.com/LegionPost795 The American Legion Post 795 is in need of updating and is a small post of 94 members. Post 795 is one of three Posts’ in California that own their own building and land. They are currently in need of new carpet, kitchen, roof, chimney repair, and remodeling.
