Three seats open for South Tahoe Public Utility District Board

Besides openings on the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, Lake Tahoe Community College Board, South Lake Tahoe City Council, Tahoe Paradise Park Board, El Dorado County Board of Supervisors this November, there will also be three openings on the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) five-member board.

From July 16 to August 10, those interested in being on the STPUD board must file for candidacy. That deadline is extended to August 15 if an incumbent fails to file for their term prior by the earlier deadline. The incumbent is not allowed to file after August 10.

Seats currently held by Chris Cefalu, James Jones and Duane Wallace will be opened this election season. It is unknown at this time if any are running for re-election.

Those interested in running must reside in the STPUD boundaries. Board members receive STPUD medical, dental and vision benefits and in accordance with Section 16002 of the Public Utility Code, and also receive a $400 per month stipend. Board Meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of the month at 2:00 p.m. in the District Board Room located at 1275 Meadow Crest Drive, South Lake Tahoe.

The filing period begins on Monday, July 16, 2018, and ends on August 10, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. If an incumbent fails to file for their term by the last day of the filing period, the time will be extended to Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. - the incumbent may not file after August 10. Declaration of Candidacy papers are available by appointment at the South Lake Tahoe Recorder-Clerk’s office located at 3368 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, Suite 108, in South Lake Tahoe on July 26 from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and August 9 from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
