November ballot filling up for South Lake Tahoe voters

There are still a few days left for those interested in running for public office this November, but several candidates have completed the process to qualify for the ballot. The following number of seats will be open: El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (1), LTUSD School Board (2) , City Council (3), City Clerk (1), City Treasurer (1), South Tahoe Public Utility District (3), Tahoe Paradise Recreation and Park District, and Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees (3).

The deadline to complete the candidate process is August 10, 2018.

Incumbent Sue Novasel will be facing challenger Kenny Curtzwiler in November for the El Dorado County Board of Supervisor Area 5 seat.

There are two seats open on the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education, those in Trustee Area #2 and #5. These board seats are currently held by current Board President Barbara Banner and current Board Clerk Angela Swanson. So far, Bannar is the only candidate to quality, so far.

Three seats on the South Lake Tahoe City Council are open, those held by Mayor Wendy David, Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis and former mayor Austin Sass. So far, David and Sass have completed the process as has challenger Tami Wallace.

The SLT City Clerk position is open after the retirement of Susan Alessi. Two people who have filled in as her assistant will be on the ballot, Ellen Pallazo and Sue Blankenship.

David Olivo will be running to retain his seat at City Treasurer.

Three openings are on the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) five-member board. Seats currently held by Chris Cefalu, James Jones and Duane Wallace will be opened this election season. So far, all three will be on the ballot along with local CPA, Eric W. Schafer, a former STPUD board member.

One person is running, so far, for the Tahoe Paradise Recreation and Park District. Joseph V. Cardinale is running to retain his seat.

Current Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees Kerry David (Area 1) and Jeff Cowan (Area 2) are running for re-election. For Area 5, Michael Marini and Tony Sears are vying for Michelle Sweeney's seat.

For the Lake Valley Fire Protection District, appointed incumbent Brian Hogan will be seeking votes in November.
