Foot pursuit lands a South Lake Tahoe man in jail

A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Friday, July 27 after leading police officers on a foot pursuit in the Bijou neighborhood.

An officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) attempted to make contact with a 36-year-old local man who matched the description of a person seen casing homes in the area.

As soon as the officer approached, the man took off on foot. Other officers joined in the pursuit and the suspect was found in a backyard on Champlain Drive in South Lake Tahoe.

The suspect was under the influence of a drug according to SLTPD Sgt. Jason Cheney. They took him to Barton for medical clearance, he was then arrested on charges of Obstruction/Evading an Officer, Possession of Unlawful Paraphernalia, and Loitering on Private Property, all misdemeanors.

Sgt. Cheney said the arrested man matched the description of someone who has been seen checking doors and windows at vacant homes in the Bijou and Pioneer Trail area for a few weeks. Cheney said they couldn't interrogate him due to his being too high, so officers will follow up with him on Saturday.

Nothing has been reported stolen from the homes that have been cased, Cheney said.

As with all crimes that are misdemeanors, South Tahoe Now will not publish the name of the arrested man.
