National Night Out celebrated in South Lake Tahoe

National Night Out is held across the country on the first Tuesday of August and is a time for the public to come together to learn how to be safer as a community. This year in South Lake Tahoe it was held at Bijou Elementary and had multiple agencies interacting with youth and adults with hands-on exhibits and activities.

The special night celebrated by millions is meant to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community and provides a great opportunity to bring everyone together under positive circumstances, especially local youth.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, El Dorado County Probation, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, El Dorado County Search and Rescue, El Dorado County STAR volunteers, Barton Health, South Lake Tahoe Library, El Dorado County Community Hub, SOuth Lake Tahoe STAT volunteers and others came together.

Kids were able to rappel on a rope set up by search and rescue, hop on board the MRAP, visit with CHP and Chipper, learn how to perform CPR on infants and adults, go fishing with the library, play games with South Lake Tahoe STAT, see how the EDSO drone helps in rescue along with their water-rescue team who brought out the diving equipment and jet skis, and learn about embers from the fire department through a bean-bag game.
