Early Saturday morning hit and run victim remains in critical condition; alcohol appears to be a factor

A 31-year-old man remains in critical condition Monday after being struck by a vehicle that sped away in the Stateline area of Lake Tahoe on Highway 50 early Saturday morning, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Cody J. Dobson of Carson CIty was hit by a vehicle at around 3:13 a.m. after apparently walking on the highway or possibly having stumbled from the adjacent sidewalk just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa. Alcohol does appear to be a factor, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

One witness who stopped to render aid told troopers he was driving west when he observed Dobson on the pavement in one of the eastbound travel lanes. When he turned his vehicle around to provide assistance, he saw a full-size blue Dodge pickup strike the downed pedestrian.

Further information indicates the pickup may have a camper shell matching the color of the vehicle as well.

Dobson was initially transported from the scene by ground ambulance and taken to Barton Memorial Hospital before being flown to Renown Regional Medical Center by Cal Star.

Alcohol does appear to be a contributing factor in this event as Dobson displayed signs of intoxication both at the scene and the hospital. He is still listed in critical condition at Renown as of Monday morning, Allen said.
