Longest Day of Golf nets SLT Cancer League over $9,400

Each year the Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe (Loyal Order of Moose #1632) hosts the Longest Day of Golf at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League and today they celebrated their effors, $9,462. Since 2006, golfers in the day long event have raised $125,328.82 for the non-profit to use towards transportation and grants for local cancer patients.

From sunrise to sunset the golfers play as many holes as possible, and this year four of them were able to play 135 holes: Kevin Sommerfeld, Bailey Sommerfeld, Greg Kuntz and John Rice. The other golfers hit the tee shot and putted through 405 holes: Mary Luckel played 126 holes, Tom Borek 117, Amy Maro 72, Rus Wilson 54 holes and Robert Velasquez 36.

During a celebration picnic Thursday, the check was given to the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League and certificates to those who drove cancer patients to their doctor and treatment appointments for a total of 32,940 miles during the past year. The Cancer League reimburses the drivers for their gas expenses.

The top drivers were Gary Burns (6,340 miles), Jan Glabek (5,710 miles), Ron and Louise Sperry (4,450 miles), Bill Spangler (4,060 miles), Robert Rathman (3,060 miles), Angie Burns (2,880 miles), Bernice Attinger (2,650 Jackie Lynch (2,200 miles), George Bergman (990 miles) and Art Muskovitz (600 miles).
