Golfers on the course for 15 hours for "Longest Day of Golf"

Nine golfers started their day at 6 a.m. Thursday, prepared to be on the Tahoe Paradise Golf Course until 9 p.m. raising money for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League.

In their tenth year, the concept of the Day of Golf was started over a couple of cocktails at the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge. Russ Wilson and Curt Emrie formulated the idea and went to the cancer league to see if they'd like to get the donations earned during the day.

Last year, the golfers got 130 holes of golf in before dark, raising $12,000.

Tahoe Valley Elementary teacher Greg Kuntz was golfing in the event because of the $1,092 raised by students of the school.

According to the league President Maryann Currington and Treasurer Angie Burns, the golfers got a breakfast at dawn, followed by lunch from Lira's Market and they'll get a pizza dinner at the Moose Lodge from Blue Dog Pizza.

Pledges will be collected at the Moose Lodge even after the golfing if complete. They can be dropped off at the lodge Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., or on weekends from noon to 6 p.m.

Sponsored by the South Lake Moose Lodge #1632 and partnered with Sierra-at-Tahoe, Hard Rock, Harrah's and Harvey's, all proceeds go back into the local community through financial grants for those facing cancer. Funds earned also go to buy gas for the volunteer drivers who take patients to Reno and Carson City for treatment. Tahoe Paradise Golf donated all of the carts and golf.
