To help one of their own, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) and community members are holding a Dodgeball Tournament fundraiser on September 10 at Sierra Lutheran High School at 1:00 p.m.
DCSO Investigator Nate Almeida and his wife Jen learned their son Trent had B-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in April of this year. Last week, the family received good new when bone marrow test results show no leukemia. Trent is now undergoing a 100-day cycle of chemotherapy and undergoing the next phase of treatment to keep those negative test results.
Trent is a senior at Sierra Lutheran High School.
To help offset expenses the tournament is being held along with a tailgate BBQ where the Carson Valley Little League will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers, and there will be a bake sale table for desserts.
The Dodgeball tournament will begin shortly after the 1:00 p.m. tailgate lunch. Teams will have 8-10 players and the cost is $20.00 a player. There will be a small entry fee for spectators and a donation box will be available for the Almeida family.
If you would like to donate to assist the family with Trent’s medical expenses and you are not able to attend the Dodgeball Tournament, you may visit Youcaring.com. You can read updates on Trent’s condition by checking on #Trentstrong through Facebook.
The school is located at 601 Romans Road in northern Douglas County.
