Facts about Saturday's South Lake Tahoe 50th Anniversary Parade

More than 100 vehicles and floats will be in Saturday's parade that will be celebrating the City of South Lake Tahoe's 50th anniversary. Along with the moving entries there will also be 500 people walking along the route.

The parade will start at the Y at 10 a.m. and proceed east to Al Tahoe Blvd along Highway 50. The parade then turns right and ends at Bijou Park. The two eastbound lanes of Highway 50 from the “Y” will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with a rolling lane opening beginning at approximately 10:30 a.m. Motorists should expect traffic to be slow and are encouraged to utilize Pioneer Trail during and immediately following the parade.

The best viewing areas will be on the south side of Highway 50. The grassy area at the Factory Stores at the Y and at Denny's will be good spots, as will any open area. Due to the length of the parade, a beach chair or a place to sit as the parade is expected to be about an hour in length.

Following the parade is the Grand Opening of the Bijou Bike Park.
