National Brotherhood of Skiers to hold next summit at Squaw Valley

The National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS) has selected Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows to host its next NBS Black Summit. The Summit serves as both the organization’s annual gathering of members and largest fundraiser. More than 800 NBS members and 300 guests from throughout the US and beyond are expected to attend the annual event. The week-long event will run March 3-10, 2018.

“We are so excited that Squaw Valley won the bid to host our Summit. This is our first national event to be held here and I’m wondering what took us so long!” said Peggie Allen, NBS President. “They meet our criteria while offering us good overall value, pristine mountains for all abilities and a lovely village that I know our members will enjoy.” Added Allen, “They also understand the value of investing in our next generation of competitive athletes and recreational enthusiasts by supporting our scholarship fund while also recognizing the economic impact we bring to all resorts and surrounding businesses. A win, win for everybody!”

Event proceeds will support the NBS Olympic Scholarship Fund and organization operations. Over the last five years, the NBS has provided more than $143,500 in support of aspiring winter sports athletes of color and local NBS club winter sports programs.

“We are thrilled to host the 2018 National Brotherhood of Skiers Black Summit at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows,” said Adam Feehan, director of sales for the resort. “Part of our mission is to create extraordinary experiences, and we’re confident that the NBS group will have an incredible time. With terrain for all ability levels and a number of off-hill activities to round out the visit, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is an excellent place for groups of all sizes to gather and enjoy the legendary mountains.

The 2018 NBS Black Summit will also mark the organization’s 45th anniversary. While each Summit features a wide range of fun-filled events on and off the slopes, NBS and Squaw leaders plan to partner and recognize this special occasion in a number of ways including après ski themes, live entertainment, races, gospel fest, a picnic and more.

Registration for the event opened on August 21, 2017. For more information about the NBS, event sponsorship opportunities or to register for the 2018 NBS Black Summit, visit www.nbs.org.
