Single vehicle rollover in South Lake Tahoe

10:00 p.m. update: One man is behind bars on suspicion of driving drunk and causing bodily injury, a felony charge.

South Lake Tahoe resident Luis Lopez-Mora, 23, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after he was released from Barton Hospital Friday evening.

As reported earlier, a call went into law enforcement about a person driving erratically on Pioneer Trail. Shortly after that call, the truck Lopez-Mora was driving failed to safely navigate a curve and his truck left the pavement and rolled down an embankment, landing on its wheels.

According to Sgt. Kurt Peterson of the CHP, the suspect then climbed up from the crashed truck and ran eastbound on Pioneer Trail where he was quickly apprehended. His unidentified passenger had minor injuries and was transported to Barton where he was expected to be released Friday night.

Lopez-Mora was transported after a field sobriety test was completed. He was medically released shortly after and booked into the El Dorado County Jail where he remains tonight. Bail has been set at $50,000.

Traffic has been a problem on Pioneer Trail this afternoon, ever since there was a single vehicle rollover west of Golden Bear Trail.

Details are not all available at this time, but early reports say two men were traveling eastbound in a white truck on Pioneer Trail. The California Highway Patrol had received a call about a reckless driver in that truck. That driver then rolled their pickup truck over the embankment on the southern edge of the road. It rolled a few times and came to a rest on its wheels, but damaged beyond repair.

The driver then ran up the embankment and ran on Pioneer Trail, but responding officers were able to stop him. The passenger in the truck remained at the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. The driver was brought back to the scene and given a sobriety test. Both were transported to Barton Hospital.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details are made available.
