Victim in fatal head-on collision identified as South Lake Tahoe resident

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The victim of Tuesday's deadly crash on US Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove has been identified as a South Lake Tahoe resident.

At 6:25 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a head-on collision at Douglas County miler marker 3.

The NHP preliminary investigation shows a black 2011 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling eastbound on the highway approaching a right curve in the roadway. At that same time, a gray 2003 Honda Element was approaching the same curve as the driver headed westbound.

The truck crossed over the double yellow centerline, striking the Honda head on.

The driver of the Honda was 34-year-old Peter Dykeman. He was declared deceased at the scene. According to social media Peter was a wildland firefighter.

The driver of the truck is suspected of impaired driving. There have been no charges at this time and his name has not yet been released.

This crash is currently being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) - NHP Case #201100198.
