The winners of the 13th annual Blue Ribbon Awards were announced Thursday, November 19 during an awards show shown on Lake Tahoe Television. In place of the annual awards dinner the community was invited to tune in virtually with hosts Chris Fiore from the City of South Lake Tahoe and Meg Peart from the Tahoe Resource Conservation District. The Tahoe Chamber collected 190 nominations from the community for the 13th annual Blue Ribbon Award to celebrate the businesses, non-profits and individuals that make the South Shore of Lake Tahoe so unique. Local businesses have been a resilient backbone of the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and honoring their contributions, achievements and milestones is more important than ever before.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Twenty-five California students have been named as National Youth and Young Adult Ambassadors by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids for demonstrating leadership in fighting tobacco use in their communities.

These young leaders were among 133 youth and young adults from 33 states who participated in the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids’ Digital Advocacy Symposium, a five-day online training session focused on building advocacy, communications and leadership skills.

Heidi Hill Drum, CEO of the Tahoe Prosperity Center, has stepped in to serve as co-chair of the California Stewardship Network, an alliance of regional economic leaders throughout the state, which are instrumental in leading economic recovery efforts in their respective regions.

Drum, who lives on the South Shore, will serve alongside Oscar Chavez, assistant director of the Sonoma County Department of Human Services.

LAKE TAHOE – The Tahoe Bliss Experiences®, together with local small business owners, produced the Virtual Bliss Assembly April 22-25 and raised $570 for Tahoe Magic during the event that included four days of live, online experiences that focused on ways in which each of us can remain mindful, fit, healthy, and aware while remaining safe at home.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Crossing at Tahoe Valley has been sold by the Sutter Capital Group, the Sacramento-based investment company that bought the struggling factory store property at the Y just over five years ago.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bike Tahoe, a nonprofit promoting bicycling in the region, has teamed up with Lake Tahoe AleWorX and BlueZone Sports of South Lake Tahoe to launch its first Tahoe Bike Love event – a weekly mountain bike ride for the public.

“We decided to team up and produce this ride series to meet the increasing requests by locals and visitors for a regularly scheduled ride they can count on,” said Bike Tahoe President Ty Polastri.

Bike Love outings are scheduled for Thursday evenings beginning August 1 at 5:30 p.m.

You can't miss them. A person buzzing down the road or bike path on a lime green electric scooter, courtesy of the newest and hottest trend, scooter sharing. In South Lake Tahoe, Lime Bike introduced the scooters a few weeks ago, and since then the popularity has increased daily.

One thing every user has is a huge smile on their face. One thing most riders don't have is a helmet and knowledge of electric scooter laws.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber) is holding their annual Blue Ribbon Awards dinner on Thursday, November 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Harrah's Lake Tahoe Ballroom. Local moms and families came together on July 9 at Nevada Beach for Climb Out of the Darkness, an international event to raise awareness around postpartum depression and other associated perinatal mood disorders.

The event raised over $2,500 to support Postpartum Support International, an organization that provides support to families and education to mental health providers. Generous support was provided by Elevate Wellness Center, Barton Health, and many local businesses. You are not alone, you are not to blame, and with help, you will be well.

It took just minutes to fill up Lake Tahoe Aleworx Taproom & Pizzeria Thursday when they opened their doors officially for the first time. Friends, family, firemen and those looking for a great selection of beer and wood-fired pizza all came to see what the newest spot to open in South Lake Tahoe was all about.

Housed in the former Factory Stores at the Y, Aleworx is the first of two restaurants that will make their home at the new Crossing at Tahoe Valley.

No, BumpBar is not a new watering hole in South Lake Tahoe. Instead, BumpBar is a nutritious bar with the pregnant or nursing woman in mind, and is the creation of local couple Dr. Amanda Weavil, MD and Scott Weavil.

BumpBar began in 2015 when Amanda, a South Lake Tahoe OB/GYN wanted to develop a nutrition bar for her patients who were either pregnant or nursing. Something they have and not worry about the ingredients.

Scott researched the large nutrition bar market and found there were no options for sale like they had in mind, something people could eat on the go that was healthy.

In society, we are inundated with advertisements and daily messages infused into our culture that justify alcohol as acceptable and normal. This substance is glorified as a method to enhance dining experiences, celebrations, entertainment, sporting events, and holidays. Alcohol itself is not the problem. A drink to accompany a meal or celebratory time is a much different choice than to completely dissociate from reality and manipulate others to achieve a “good time.”
