COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If COVID-19 cases continue their dramatic rise, California Governor Gavin Newsom said there may be more drastic measures coming, including a stay-at-home order in purple-tier counties where cases are surging. Newsom said Northern California hospitals are currently at 85 percent capacity in the ICU and they are expected to be at 100 percent in early December.

In the release of new figures Monday, there were 231 additional cases in El Dorado County and an additional six hospitalizations. The new stay-at-home orders will also be depending on an area's capacity to handle the surge in their hospitals.

There is no indication that any one activity is causing the surge in cases at this time and there is community spread. In the next 10-14 days the Thanksgiving celebrations from mixed households should be reflected in case numbers.

El Dorado County health officials say another 231 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday.
