SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A delivery error at Safeway's South Lake Tahoe gas station led to the premium gasoline situation first highlighted by South Tahoe Now on Thursday.

Any diesel, 89 or 91 octane gasoline purchased at the Safeway on Lake Tahoe Boulevard between 8:00 p.m. on December 30 and 11:00 a.m. on January 2 may be contaminated according to the Safeway corporate offices.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The ringing in of the new year was celebrated several different ways across the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.

At Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe, a season-long celebration concluded with a New Year's Eve celebration attended by an estimated 6,500 people. The festivities included a 9:00 p.m. fireworks show on the gondola, concerts and special activities all day long.

2018 – 2019 was a year of endings and new beginnings. Tahoe Youth & Family Services faced a lot of change. As we all know, change is hard but change can also be exciting. Both our staff and board are embracing the New Year with excitement and renewed energy.

The following are new programs that will be happening:
o Homeless program for youth 18 – 24 years in South Lake Tahoe, SLT
o Expanded SLT Host home program for youth under 18 including those youth who are involved with child welfare services, juvenile probation, and the McKinney Vento program.

The UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC), together with support from community partners, will host the 4th annual Science of Cocktails with proceeds directly supporting the UC Davis Tahoe Science Center and innovative science education programs.

Shake things up at the UC Davis Tahoe Science Center on Friday, January 31, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. when they hold "The Science of Cocktails," a unique evening event where mixology and science meet.

Clarity was originally a name reserved for Honda’s venture into fuel cells which still exists in the Clarity Fuel Cell. But at a price approaching $60,000, its sales are very small at about 625 units for 2018. While that is a percentage increase of about 35 percent, the actual number of increased unit sales was under 200 year over year. See how percentage increase figures can be misleading? However, the new Clarity Plug-in Hybrid is having robust sales in comparison (over 18,0000 units sold) and for many a good reason.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During their closed session meeting today, the South Lake Tahoe City Council selected a preferred candidate to take on the duties of an interim city manager.

When the meeting ended at 1:20 p.m., Council announced no reportable action but they did want to update the community on the status of their conversation. South Lake Tahoe Mayor Jason Collin said they directed staff to begin negotiations with the candidate.

The name of that candidate is not being released at this time.

A Go Fund Me fundraising page has been set up by a friend of Mark “Coach Hammer” Brown who passed away at the age of 55 in South Lake Tahoe on December 18.

"He was a fabulous guy with a rock-star charisma," says the description on the page. "Mark was A dedicated father to his daughter Taylor and an active volunteer in the South Tahoe community. His sudden passing on December 18 has left his family and friends in shock."

The South Lake Tahoe City Council will be holding a special meeting on Friday, December 27 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the hiring of an interim city manager.

Current City Manager Frank Rush gave his notice to the Council on November 26 after accepting a position in Big Bear Lake, Calif. His last day with the City will be on January 24, 2020.

South Tahoe High School’s students get ready for holiday break. This week, leadership spreads holiday cheer, Climate Crew sets out for a conference, and basketball gets ready for another home game.

Leadership created a spirit week leading up to the break. Each day, students dressed up according to theme of ugly sweaters, Hanukkah, ski bum, holiday character, and pajama day. Leadership and Associated Student Body are holding a holiday rally in the Blue Gym tomorrow.

Caesars Entertainment has teamed up with Ramsay once again and has transformed the old Sage Room in Harveys Lake Tahoe to be the newest home for Hell's Kitchen.

Even before the doors open, over 12,000 reservations have been made for one of 151 seats in the 3,160 square foot restaurant located on the casino floor.

Ronald Gordon Renaldi, R.Ph., passed away on December 4, 2019 at the age of 86.

Born in Oakland, California on October 26, 1933 to Hazel and Joseph Renaldi. Ron grew up in Oakland, graduating from Saint Elizabeth High School in 1951. He earned a BS from the University of California, Berkeley in 1955.

STATELINE, Nev. - An early Christmas present for country music fans. Harrah's and Harvey's Lake Tahoe have announced the first act confirmed for the 2020 Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series.

Country music superstar Kenny Chesney will bring his Amphitheater CHILLAXIFICATION tour to Tahoe on July 2 & 3, 2020. Chesney’s amphitheater shows feature popular, multi-talented musician and Oakland, California native Michael Franti & Spearhead as support on the stage.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The December edition of the City of South Lake Tahoe's "At Lake Level" has been released by City Manager Frank Rush. This month Rush covers SnowGlobe, the 56-acre site and a possible new Fire/EMS station for the community.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – Voters who have been mailed a postcard from the
El Dorado County Registrar of Voters Bill O’Neill indicating they are a "No Party Preference" may have to re-register.

“We are confident our mailing list of NPP voters is accurate, however, some voters may have had their party preference unknowingly changed as a result of automatic voter registration through the California Department of Motor Vehicles,” O’Neill said.

PLACERVILLE, Calif. - Eldorado National Forest Supervisor Laurence Crabtree announced that he will retire on January 6, 2020, completing a career that spanned 50 years.

Local teen and Lake Tahoe Community College student Laney Terrell has been invited by the International Scholar Laureate Program to join a delegation on International Relations & Diplomacy that will be traveling to South Africa in spring 2020.

"I am so excited for this opportunity to see how other democracies work and represent my Hometown," Terrell said.

The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Area Agency on Aging (AAA), in partnership with the Commission on Aging, is conducting a needs assessment survey of older adults in the community. El Dorado County residents aged 60 and older are encouraged to complete the survey, but interested residents of any age may provide their feedback. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Ever since the South Lake Tahoe became an incorporated city on November 30, 1965, there have been five elected councilmembers. Annually those elected members vote for one of them to hold the position of mayor for a one-year term.

That has now changed.

On Tuesday the South Lake Tahoe City Council unanimously approved the proposal to have mayor terms of nine months "so they can all get a chance in their four-year term."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The popular Heavenly Holidays has returned to the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe. This family-friendly event runs until December 31.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - He has been at the helm of the City for almost a year, but Frank Rush has submitted his resignation and is headed south to take on a new position in Big Bear Lake, California.

Rush was sworn in as the City of South Lake Tahoe city manager on December 6, 2018, and will be leaving on January 24, starting in Big Bear Lake on February 3, 2020. Their City Council approved him during their meeting on Monday.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It's looking a lot different at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe facilities at the former Al Tahoe Elementary School on Lyons Avenue.

The current South Lake Tahoe site for BGCLT had major clearing this week to make way for a brand new clubhouse. Old portable buildings were removed as were some trees as crews make way for their multi-million dollar future home.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) begins their search for a replacement for the retiring superintendent the people tasked with finding the right candidates are reaching out to the community.

What is being developed from public meetings and an online survey will create the profile of what makes up the desired characteristics neede or the person who will move into Dr. James Tarwater's position when he retires in June 2020.
