For over 30 years, Bread & Broth has been providing meals at St. Theresa Church’s Grace Hall to all who come to our door. Over the years, the number of meals served weekly has changed, but currently, Bread & Broth (B&B) serves two meals, Monday Meal and Second Serving on Fridays, every week of the year. As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, B&B relies on the generosity of time and monetary support from our local community to provide the wonderful and nutritious meals that are enjoyed by our dinner guests.

Sponsoring their first Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) for this year, the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club donated $300 to host Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal dinner on February 24 and helped feed those in need in our community. Having sponsored five to six Bread & Broth (B&B) meals annually for the past several years, the Rotary Club has demonstrated its commitment to dedicating their time and talents to tackling humanitarian challenges.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thanks to the men and women of South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge #1632 and Bread & Broth Team #3 volunteers, a wonderful meal was served to all of the dinner guests who attended the Monday Meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall February 17. The Moose Lodge sponsored their annual Adopt A Day (AAD) of Nourishment by donating $300 to cover the costs of the food and associated expenses necessary to provide the hot, full-course meal served at the dinner.

Thanks to Vail’s EpicPromise grant and the wonderful and incredible Heavenly Mountain Resort Ski Services team members, Bread & Broth’s (B&B) dinner guests enjoyed a wonderful and nutritious meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall on Monday, February 10. Thanks to the generous $300 donation provided by the EpicPromise foundation, the B&B cooks whipped up a tasty meal of Chicken Picante, baked potatoes, green beans, and an avocado salad and servings of a variety of delicious desserts.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As local residents and St. Theresa Church parishioners, Kevin and Jean Bauwens wanted to help those in need and decided that sponsoring a Bread & Broth (B&B) Adopt A Day of Nourishment would provide them with the opportunity to help feed those experiencing hunger in our community. So, on February 2, Kevin and Jean, along with their daughter, Carrie Bauwens, and granddaughter, Isabel Telles, hosted the Monday Meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall.

Exchanging their Heavenly Ski Patrol jackets for Bread & Broth (B&B) aprons, Patrick Chu, Colton Terry, Andi Bertolina, Abby Salter, Marissa Streck, and Mike Galgay joined the B&B volunteers serving a delicious hot meal to the dinner guests at the Monday Meal on January 27 at St. Theresa Grace Hall. It was a cold evening and the hot chicken noodle casserole, prepared by the talented B&B cooks and served by the Heavenly Ski Patrol Adopt A Day sponsor team members, was a hit with the dinner guests.

Bread & Broth’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) program provides community members the opportunity to partner with us in our efforts to serve a hot, nutritious meal to the less fortunate of our community. Providing a basic need is a way to not only ease hunger but also uplifts the lives and well-being of those who are struggling. Wanting to take advantage of this opportunity to help others, the Tahoe Wellness Center partnered with Bread & Broth (B&B) and hosted the Monday Meal as the Adopt A Day sponsor on January 20.

Thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra’s $300 sponsorship and manpower donation, Bread & Broth (B&B) volunteers were able to prepare and serve another great dinner on January 13. Ever since the inception of B&B’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorship program back in 2012, the Kiwanis Club has been adopting the second Monday dinner in the month of January. The Club was one of the first organizations to host an AAD and they have been a consistent supporter of B&B’s goal of easing hunger in our community.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - So many of Tahoe community members, organizations and businesses are helping Bread & Broth ease hunger in our community by sponsoring a B&B Adopt A Day of Nourishment. Kirkwood Mountain Resort, through the Vail EpicPromise grant program, is a frequent sponsor group that hosts six AAD sponsorships annually. To start off the new year, Kirkwood held its first Monday Meal sponsorship dinner on January 6.

On December 23, Andy and Ellen Dauscher, and their daughters Ali and Carleigh, shared the blessings of the holiday season with the dinner guests attending Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal dinner. Thanks to their Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsorship, the Dauscher Family funded B&B’s meal, and as a family, volunteered at the dinner to spread the holiday spirit and share the blessing of a holiday meal.

“Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club loves being a part of Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal,” shared Rotarian Ellen Dauscher. “It is wonderful to provide such a delicious meal to members of our community.” Helping Ellen serve Bread & Broth's (B&B) Monday Meal evening dinner guests on December 16 were fellow Rotarians Jillian and Trevor Murray, and Raymond and Roberta Stillwell. As Adopt A Day sponsor crew members, the group dished out heaping servings of roasted chicken, fajita zucchini, rice pilaf with peas, and a garden salad.

Hosting their second Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) this year, Monbleu Resort Casino & Spa was the sponsor for Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on December 2. “It was a pleasure once again to lend a hand for such an important cause for our community,” shared Michael Carney. Michael, along with Montbleu Resort sponsor team members Mindy Bobadilla and Olimpia Nantz, volunteered three hours of their time to help the Bread & Broth (B&B) volunteers with their sponsorship dinner.

Every year during the first week of November, Corporate Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. encourages their Ameriprise office team members across the country to participate in an activity to support their ‘National Day of Service’ giving campaign. For the last five years, the Tahoe South Shore’s Ameriprise office has elected to sponsor a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) and this year they hosted the Monday Meal on November 4 to participate in the annual Corporate campaign.

Every year In November, Vail EpicPromise Grants are generously awarded to many local community non-profit organizations including the Bread & Broth organization. In addition to supporting Bread & Broth’s B&B 4 Kids Program, the Vail Grant provides funds to sponsor 12 annual B&B Adopt A Day of Nourishment dinners which are served at St. Theresa Grace Hall on Monday evenings to any member of the community who attends the dinner.

Bread & Broth holds two meals weekly throughout the year and everyone in the community is invited to enjoy the communal dinners offered every Monday and Friday at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall (Second Serving will return to the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church once the fire damage has been mitigated). The Monday Meal, served from 4 – 5:30 p.m., is a hot, nutritious, full-course dinner and the Second Serving meal, served on Fridays from 4 – 5:00 p.m. is a soup served with a simple entrée.

“It was a great experience!” exclaimed Peter Friederici as he described his volunteering stint on behalf of Hope Lutheran Church of the Sierra’s Adopt A Day sponsorship meal on September 9. Fellow church members Connie Friederici, Robert Guebard, Patti Green and Diane Martin all happily joined Peter in giving their personal time to represent Hope Lutheran and serve a nutritious dinner to their fellow neighbors.

Bread & Broth volunteers were in for a real treat when Liberty Utilities wanted to sponsor two Monday Meal dinners in a row. The Lake Tahoe utility company’s first Adopt A Day of Nourishment was held on August 26 and was to be followed by their second sponsorship on September 2. On the 26th Liberty Utilities’ sponsor crew, consisting of Kurt Althof and Blaine Ladd, were very enthusiastic and eager to embrace the opportunity to pitch in and serve the vulnerable of the community.

For four years Janet has been sponsoring a meal which feeds a nutritious and well-balanced meal to up to 100 dinner guests and she can always to counted on to support Bread & Broth’s program of easing hunger for those in need.

On June 24th, Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal fed 96 community members who arrived at St. Theresa’s Grace Hall between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to be served beef stroganoff, sautéed zucchini, a green salad, fresh apricots and a lovely assortment of desserts. Sponsoring the meal for the evening was Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, whose $300 donation helped cover the costs of the meal, and who provided five Hard Rock team members to participate in their Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship.

Every month, a wonderful, generous and fun-loving group of ladies mainly from the Zephyr Heights area gather together to visit, share family news and enjoy each other’s company. For over 18 years, 8 to 14 ladies from the Zephyr Heights Breakfast Club make the monthly meeting. During the past holiday season, some of the ladies decided that rather than exchanging gifts, they really wanted to help others.

Aletha and fellow club members Connie Alcamo, Sandy McKnight, Peter Nelligan and Larry Pedigo filled dinner trays with BBQ ribs, baked beans, fried potatoes, zucchini and a green salad in their role as volunteer crew members for the club’s first Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship.

Twice yearly, the Harrah’s and Harveys HEROs (Harrahs Employees Reaching Out) sponsors a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day (AAD) of Nourishment meal to help others in the Lake Tahoe South Shore Community.

On April 22, the HEROs were back hosting an AAD at St. Theresa Grace Hall sponsoring the evening meal. “We all enjoyed serving our local community, especially at Easter time,” said HERO member Janice Blanchard. “It was a fantastic experience to celebrate and serve on Earth Day!”

As a follow-up to an Adopt A Day of Nourishment on February 4, Heavenly Ski Patrol sponsored their second AAD for the year and sent another great crew to serve at the B&B dinner.

With a big winter snow storm hitting the Tahoe area on Monday, February 2, there was no better crew to have sponsor the Adopt A Day of Nourishment meal than Heavenly’s Ski Patrol members. This crew braved the snowy roads and whiteout conditions to come to St. Theresa Church Grace Hall and help provide a hot and filling beef stroganoff dinner to the hungry folks who faced difficult conditions to attend B&B’s Monday Meal.

On Monday, January 28, Bread & Broth’s 102 dinner guests were treated to a very special dinner. Members of St. Theresa’s Filipino community cooked and served chicken adobo, sweet and sour pork ribs, shrimp and chicken pasta, honey mustard chicken, steamed vegetables, rice, and salad. All delicious Filipino specialty dishes. In addition, to the heaping first servings dished out, many of the diners came back for seconds and containers filled with ‘leftovers’ to take home.
