Families, art and music lovers, and history buffs can expect a spectacular season of entertainment on the shore of Lake Tahoe at this year’s Valhalla Arts, Music & Theatre Festival, June 17 – August 26, 2015. Free music on the lawn, boot stomping roots music in a 1920’s boathouse, classic theatre productions, outdoor art camps for kids, cultural dance performances and fine art shows are some of the many highlights that await 2015 festival goers. Summer will get off with a splash at the Hard Rock Lake Tahoe this summer, and locals will get to enjoy it! The Splash Day Club will be a rockin’ outdoor poolside day club with world-class DJs and poolside amenities and services including private cabanas and "day" beds, signature drink specials, bottle-service and a seasonal summer menu. Think high-energy nightclub outdoors in the sun.

Bona Fide Books will host an art reception for plein air painter Claudia A. Garza on Fri., May 1, 6:30-8:30 pm at its shop in Meyers. This event is free and open to the public.

Raised in Chicago, Garza is a longtime art lover who began studying with Phyllis Shafer and Dave Russo at Lake Tahoe Community College when she moved to South Lake Tahoe in 2004.

The Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation and Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe are teaming up once again for the fourth annual “Off the Wall” Art Auction at LTCC. Participants can enjoy works of art created by locally and regionally known artists, bid on their favorites, and support local education and charitable organizations, all at the same time.

The artwork up for auction is being donated by a number of local artists, including nationally known artist and LTCC Art Department Chair Phyllis Shafer, David Russo, and many other Art Department faculty members.

The Tahoe Art League preesnts “Change Your Point of View," a demonstration by artist Thaleia Georgiades.

They have invited the public to participate in the demonstration to learn how to add drama and interest to art works through changing your point of view. This dynamic event will be held as part of the league's monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center. It is free to the public.

Lady Jill’s landscapes of the High Sierra/Great Basin region beautifully depict our mountainous high desert terrain with skill that leads the viewer to the sensation that they are part of the scene, admiring nature.

It's not every day you see a 2,200 pound, 26-foot tall guitar being driven along Highway 50 from Sacramento into South Lake Tahoe. Nor does one normally see a huge crane lifting a metal guitar over 100 feet to be placed onto a base in front of a South Shore casino.

We all have our own traditional touches we put on our Christmas Trees, from Grandma's special ornament to strung popcorn and cranberries. There is nothing ordinary or traditional about the trees on display at Harrah's Tahoe this week during Barton's Festival of Trees.

Tree designer Tara Dobyns, a 37-year South Lake Tahoe local, was selected to design two trees this year. When asked if she was an artist or decorator, Dobyns answered "no, I'm a landlord!"

Bassnectar, who has played at South Lake Tahoe's SnowGlobe, will be performing at MontBleu Resort on November 6.

The Electronic Dance Music heavyweight has rock critics saying his shows are not only finely tuned auditory experiences, but feature unparalleled light arrangements and awe-inspiring visual queues.

Bassnectar is the brainchild of Lorin Ashton, a San Francisco-based DJ, producer and artist.

Award winning performers from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Reno and Tahoe will grace the stage for Trails and Vistas World Concert at Sand Harbor State Park at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 6. Once a year, local artists open their studios for the Tahoe Art League Studio Tour. This free event gives the public the opportunity to view and purchase art as well as visits with the talented participants.

For two weekends the tour is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Here is an easy to use map or they can be picked up at the Art League's gallery located at 3062 Lake Tahoe Blvd adjacent to the Lake Tahoe Historical Museum, Senior Center and Visitor's Center.

The 2014 Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival begins On Wednesday, June 25th with a concert featuring award winning songwriter and guitar player Ray Bonneville with very special guest Lance Canales and the Flood opening the show.

Lovers of all genres of music will appreciate these renowned American Roots and Blues artists. The Boathouse Theatre’s rear doors will be open to the lake view for this special evening! Artist Avery Palmer will be at Lake Tahoe Community College on Friday, June 20 in the school's room F101. Palmer will present a lecture on his artwork, including a slide show, as well as participate in a demonstration and discussion of his ceramic techniques.

The school's Art Club is hosting the free event which is open to the public.

Palmer is an emerging artist from San Jose, CA. who specializes in drawing and painting as well as ceramics.

For the sixth consecutive year, South Tahoe High School students have won honors in the California Fourth District Congressional Art Competition.

STHS student Meghan Bryd won the competition this year with her photograph in honor of a holocaust survivor.

Few authors are better known than Theodor Seuss Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, yet, to this day, his Secret Art and his fantastical Hat Collection are virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime, Ted Geisel created paintings and collected hats which he secreted away in a hidden closet at the Dr. Seuss Estate. This is the first time ever that Dr. Seuss’s hats have ever traveled outside his home.

A unique and intimate evening of classical music, wine and appetizers is planned for Thursday, February 20, at Edgewood Tahoe. Accomplished classical pianist Deborah Dewey returns this year for a solo performance preceded by an artist's reception beginning at 6 PM. The program will include selections from Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Aaberg & others. Tickets.

San Francisco's DJ Galen is headed up the mountain to perform at this year's SnowGlobe. His DJ sets reflect a deep, funky, underground warehouse sound stemming from a synchronous relationship with a multitude of compositions. His mixing ability enables him to smoothly and effortlessly flow between styles within a single set, adept at adjusting his sound to meet nearly any situation.

The artist, who's real name is Galen Abbott, graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Electronic Music.
