Kids Looking for Things to do This Summer? How About STAR Camp?

The City of South Lake Tahoe Community Services department started their STAR (South Tahoe Adventure Recreation) camps this week. Youth and teens ages 6 to 16 can use this summer to explore Lake Tahoe by enjoying field trips, swimming, going to the beach and many other activities, all in a safe and fun environment.

There will be a free tennis clinic for all local children at the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club on Saturday and Sunday, June 14-15. The event is being sponsored by the Douglas County Parks and Recreation, Coyote Grill and the tennis club.
The clinic is open to all Lake Tahoe basin kids ages 8 and older.
El Dorado County Libraries are #1 in State

El Dorado County led the state in 2013 with an estimated 79% of families reading to their children on a daily basis according to Children Now, a national organization for people who care about children and want to ensure that they are the top public priority.
City of South Lake Tahoe Hires New Administrative Services Director

City Manager Nancy Kerry today announced the selection of Mark Carlson as Administrative Services Director. Mr. Carlson is anticipated to begin his service with the City in early April.

The 2nd Annual South Lake Tahoe Holiday Parade will be held on Saturday, December 14. Spectators will line the parade route from the top of Ski Run Blvd to TJMaxx at the Y. When the parade starts the forecast is sunny and 40 degrees.

South Lake Tahoe City Council Recognizes Graduates of First Citizens Academy

Nineteen residents participated in six sessions conducted over a 12 week period.
El Dorado County offers free home weatherization program

El Dorado County residents can save big on energy bills, and keep their homes cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, by taking advantage of free weatherization services available through the El Dorado County Community Services Weatherization Program. “The average yearly savings in energy bills after weatherization is over $400,” said Michelle Hunter, program manager with Community Services.

Lake Tahoe Resource Conservation District Hires New District Manager

The Tahoe Resource Conservation District (Tahoe RCD) has hired a new District Manager, John Skeel, who officially takes over duties on July 19 at Tahoe RCD’s offices in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Skeel has 24 years of experience working with government organizations and not-for-profit agencies, focused primarily on community services, parks and recreation.
Town of Mammoth Lakes declares bankruptcy
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 07/02/2012 - 11:57amThe worst possible outcome for Mammoth Lakes has come true. The town filed decided to declare municipal bankruptcy Monday morning, July 2. The Town Council took the action unanimously.
"It's wish this hadn't happened," said Mayor Matthew Lehman, "but it's not the way the cards fell for us."
The town immediately issued a press release regarding the Town council decision.

Lakeview Commons Project Update Video
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 11/04/2011 - 9:35amThe Lakeview Commons Project, a partnership between the California Tahoe Conservancy and the City of South Lake Tahoe, spans the beach area that was once known to locals as El Dorado Beach. Approaching from the western side is the boat ramp, and a newly constructed Boathouse. The downstairs will feature storage lockers for paddle boards and kayaks, restrooms, and a boat rental area. Upstairs will be a concession stand and patio with a gas fire pit and a more commercial size barbeque with a cook top.
Bona Fide Books asks community to participate in survey

The City of South Lake Tahoe hosted a special project walk-through at the Lakeview Commons Project Site Thursday afternoon, and revealed the almost-finished product that the city hopes will be a jewel in the recreation crown for the area.
“It’s going to be the Sand Harbor of South Shore” said Jim Marino, Capital Improvement Manager with the City of South Lake Tahoe.
