10:06 p.m. update: The South Lake Tahoe Police Department has released an update on Friday night's stabbing at the Transit Center at the Y.

Originally we were told the suspect was born in 1945, instead, he is a 45-year-old male.

Reno man charged in threats against Carson City judge after matching DNA confirmed

The man believed to be responsible for shooting at and attempting to firebomb the home of a Carson City judge and sending him a threatening Christmas card in the mail has been formally charged for the crimes, officials announced Tuesday.

Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury announced Reno area resident Jason Aston, 74, is charged with fourth-degree arson, aggravated stalking and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. His bail is set at $250,000 cash.

One by one detectives from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Department have been rounding up all six suspects wanted for the brutal November 11, 2016 murder of Jeffrey Quinn Settler, 35, a commercial marijuana grower.

Two South Lake Tahoe teens arrested for alleged kidnapping and beating; Third sought

Two 18-year-old girls turned themselves into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) on Friday evening after they became aware of a warrant out for their arrest on charges of kidnapping and battery.

According to SLTPD, Christina Barnhart and Lily Brooks and a third teen are suspected of forcing themselves into an apartment in the 3600 block of Spruce Avenue on Tuesday, February 28 and pulling the occupant out by her hair, and then dragging her outside where they allegedly kicked and punched the victim.

Woman sexually assaulted on west slope bike trail, suspect leaves behind shoe

An El Dorado County woman walking on a bike trail with her child in a stroller was sexually assaulted on January 27 at approximately 1:00 p.m.

The male suspect approached the woman on the trail near Missouri Flat Road and asked her about the location of a nearby business. He then asked her for a dollar, and when she gave it to him he asked to shake her hand. He then grabbed a hold of her hand, pulled her in close and used his other hand to sexually assault her according to Sgt. Tasha Thompson of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

South Lake Tahoe find missing man cold, but alert

9:50 a.m. update - A South Lake Tahoe Police detective found Daniel Trevis at 9:26 a.m. this morning on Park Avenue less than a mile from his residence. Trevis was wrapped in a blanket, awake and alert, but was very cold. His son is taking him for a medical evaluation. SLTPD thanks the public for their assistance.

Carson City runaway may in Lake Tahoe area

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office asks for the public’s help finding a runaway teen. Janae Angel, 16, was reported as a runaway teen on Dec. 9, 2016, and entered into NCIC out of Carson City. Janae is suspected to be with subjects she may have met on Facebook. She may be in the Reno and or Tahoe area.

Washoe County teen arrested for making numerous 911 calls

A 17-year-old boy was arrested by Washoe County Sheriff's deputies after the teen made over a dozen false reports to emergency dispatch.

Between November 12, 2016 and November 29, 2016, the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received calls from the Sun Valley area, including reports of mass murder, shoot-outs in the street, and a bomb threat to a local elementary school.

Carson City sheriff's detectives seek identity of pair stealing jewelry from store

Carson City sheriff's detectives are looking for two women suspected of stealing several pieces of jewelry from a Carson City store earlier this month.

During the crime, which happened on Monday, Sept. 19, one of the female suspects was able to distract store employees while the other suspect concealed several pieces of jewelry and left the store, said CCSO Detective David LeGros. A small child was with them.

SLEDNET: South Shore drug task force dissolved

For the past several months there has been no official SLEDNET servicing the South Shore, and today it was announced that the drug task force that has been serving the community since 1988 has dissolved.

Carson City teens may be in South Lake Tahoe, last seen near local motel

9/12/6 update: All four teenage girls who were reported as runaways last week have now returned home, the Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators said today.

Two sisters, 15 and 16, who were listed as runaways and not seen since Sept. 2, have turned themselves over to juvenile officers. A 14-year-old had returned to her residence on Thursday and a 16-year-old was located Wednesday.

Search continues for El Dorado County man missing for over a year

Justin Bonderer, who would have recently celebrated his 36th birthday, hasn't been seen since the Camino home he was living in burned on April 7, 2016.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for the long time resident of Georgetown, Calif.

Justin moved to Camino with his then girlfriend. Detectives were able to track Justin up through April 7, 2015, where he was last seen in Placerville, possibly on his way to Camino.

Firearm used in robbery of man at South Lake Tahoe motel; Two arrested

Two men have been arrested after a man was robbed at gunpoint at the Blackjack Motel on Wednesday, August 25, according to Detective Brian Hannink of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

SLTPD responded to the armed robbery where the victim reported two white male adults had used a firearm while they robbed him of a cell phone and other property. The two suspects then fled in a vehicle.

Three arrested in Carson City counterfeiting operation

Three people were arrested Wednesday in connection with a counterfeit money operation after a search warrant was served at a local motel, a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective said.

Investigators arrested Conrad Hilbmann, Lorrie Lockwood and Kathleen Lockwood. All suspects were charged with counterfeiting, possession of a financial forgery lab, possession of forged bills, uttering a forged instrument, conspiracy to commit forgery and possession of a controlled substance.

During the investigation, more than $3,000 in counterfeit US currency was seized.

Man sought for assaulting women in South Lake Tahoe

On July 25, a woman visiting South Lake Tahoe reported a robbery and attempted sexual assault in a laundry room at Lakeland Village on Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Over the past year, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department has received at least three such reports and believe they may be related due to similarities in the subject's description and method of operation.

SLTPD wants to caution the public and is asking for help in identifying the suspect(s) in these cases.

Bandaged Bandit arrested after another bank robbery

A 22-year-old El Dorado Hills man is behind bars on suspicion of robbing several area banks between June 29 and July 25 from Stateline to Folsom with his face covered in bandages, earning him the nickname, the Bandaged Bandit.

On July 25 at 2:35 p.m., the US Bank on White Rock Road in El Dorado Hills was robbed by a suspect who fled into a wooded area southeast of the bank. Deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol officers and helicopter started searching the area.

Kayaker dies in water offshore of South Lake Tahoe

1:30 p.m. 7/20/16 update: The man who died while kayaking in Lake Tahoe on Tuesday has been identified as 43-year-old Paul Anthony Aguirre of Rio Linda, Calif. Aguirre was in South Lake Tahoe with his family, his fiancée, and his fiancée's family.

Aguirre had been paddling in a privately owned kayak in the area of El Dorado Beach when family members lost sight of him and a call went out for help at 4:49 p.m.

The victim was located at the water’s surface, approximately 300 yards off of the shoreline of El Dorado Beach, where the depth was approximately 10 feet.

Body found in burned car in Washoe County, Sheriff's Office seeks public's help

Three people have been identified as "persons of interest" by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office in connection to an investigation of human remains found in a burnt vehicle off State Route 447 on Thursday night.

The men have been identified as Shannon Miller, Shawn Miller and Corey Massengale, all from the Silver Spring area of Lyon County.

Sheriff asking for public's help in finding woman missing in Pollock Pines

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding a deaf woman who went missing in the Pollock Pines area back on July 8.

Kimberly Gillespie, 42, was last seen possibly walking in a rural area east of Pollock Pines. She is a white female adult, 5’2″ tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds. Kimberly has brown hair, brown eyes and has disabilities that affect her memory and mobility.

She was last seen wearing a sleeveless shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes.

El Dorado Hills bank robber appears to be same as South Shore suspect

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) is working on the strong possibility that a man who robbed the Chase Bank in El Dorado Hills on Friday is the same man who robbed the US Bank on Kingsbury Grade on Wednesday. Lt. Jim Byers of EDSO told South Tahoe Now that the moment the photo of the suspect came out, deputies in South Lake Tahoe saw the resemblance and notified him.

Sheriff investigating death of man whose body found near Barton

The El Dorado County Sheriff's office responded to a report of a possible dead person on June 25, 2016 at 4:21 p.m. in the 1200 block of Winnemucca Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.

Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased male in a moderate state of decomposition.

At this time, the case is being investigated as a suspicious death, and no identification or cause of death has been determined.

Cameron Park man faces new allegations of child molestation

A 23-year-old Cameron Park man is behind bars again on felony child molestation charges.

Deputies from the El Dorado Sheriff's Office (EDS)) arrested Robert Lee Edmonds on June 15 after several minors were identified as his victims.

The play, written by John Bishop and directed by Susan Boulanger, will be at the school's Duke Theater March 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees on March 13 and 20 at 2 p.m.

Owner of Lake Tahoe Brewing Company jailed on felony theft charge

The owner of Lake Tahoe Brewing Company was arrested Monday on a felony theft warrant involving brewing equipment sold to a man in British Columbia in which he paid the suspect $45,000 for equipment he never received, a Carson City sheriff’s detective said.

Michael Candelario was taken into custody on suspicion of theft of property valued at $3,500 or more. The dollar amount of the alleged theft related to equipment is $45,000, said Detective Sam Hatley. He was arrested at the Carson City brewery and booked into Carson City jail. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

Man allegedly pours gasoline on girlfriend, sets her on fire

A Cameron Park, Calif., man was arrested late Thursday night after allegedly pouring gasoline on his girlfriend, then setting her on fire during the course of a domestic argument.

On February 4, deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responded to several 911 calls reporting a woman screaming in the 2700 block of La Crescenta Drive in Cameron Park.

When deputies arrived they found a woman with serious burns to her lower body. She was transported to an emergency room burn unit for treatment.

Ponderosa High School coach arrested for inappropriate relations with students

The Ponderosa High School water polo coach was arrested by the El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies on Tuesday, January 26 on charges of sex with a minor with the intent of committing sexual acts and possession of child pornography.

Shane O’Rourke, 22, was arrested after the school's resource office obtained information that a coach at the school was possibly involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student. An investigation conducted with EDSO investigators determined O'Rourke had two inappropriate sexual relations with students.

Marijuana focus at third home invasion robbery in El Dorado County

El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a home invasion robbery on December 4 at 7:00 a.m. on Meadow Circle in Rescue. The woman who called in the report told the 911 operator that one person had been stabbed.

Once deputies arrived they found three occupants at the home, including one male who was bleeding. They were all escorted to a safe place where medics could evaluate them.

Another El Dorado County home invasion robbery nets pot and cash

There have been two home invasion robberies in El Dorado County in the last nine days, and in both cases the thieves were after money and marijuana.

On November 28 at 1:15 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to a home invasion robbery in the 3000 block of Winter Creek Road in Mount Aukum. The unidentified male caller said his wife was the victim and she was home alone. He went home and met deputies there.

Processed marijuana stolen during El Dorado County home invasion robbery

11/24/15 update: The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested both Ross and Stone on warrants issued by El Dorado County. When contacted, both Ross and Stone were armed with loaded firearms. They were taken into custody without incident and some of the stolen property from the Greenwood robbery was recovered. Ross and Stone were booked into the Sacramento County Jail on weapons and drug charges. They were also booked on warrants from El Dorado County. They are both in custody at the Sacramento County Jail in lieu of $350,000 bail.

Diamond Springs branch of El Dorado Savings robbed

The El Dorado Savings Bank on Pleasant Valley Road in Diamond Springs was robbed on Friday, November 13 at about 6:00 p.m. The suspect reportedly fled on foot, last seen running east on Pleasant Valley Road.

FBI classifies North Tahoe/Incline Village church vandalism as hate crimes

The FBI and Placer County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s help in identifying the person or persons responsible for vandalizing churches in the North Lake Tahoe area.

Between April 4 and September 14, 2015, multiple churches were vandalized, including one in Kings Beach and one in Tahoe City. One religious statue and exterior walls were spray-painted with offensive statements. Detectives are working with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, which has also had several churches vandalized in the Incline Village area.

Man arrested for making threats at El Dorado County preschools

10 p.m. update 9/29/15:

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 23-year-old Orangevale, CA man in connection with threats made at several El Dorado County preschools and day care centers over the past few days. Many of the schools closed temporarily in response to the threats to staff and children.

Michael McDermort was booked into El Dorado County Jail for charges related to terrorizing threats. As of Tuesday night he was still in jail on a bail hold of $51,500.

Fireman and Police Detective wed in South Lake Tahoe on 9/11

The cameras were running in New York City on September 11, 2001 as two airplanes hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center, forever changing the lives of Americans. First responders lost their lives as they rushed to the scene of the disaster to help the injured, marking the day as a day of remembrance for firefighters and police officers.

Two first responders chose 9/11 to be married in South Lake Tahoe in a ceremony that united a Suisun City Police Detective with a Pennisula Fireman.

South Lake Tahoe Police officers to be honored in ceremony

Not only are eight South Lake Tahoe Police Department employees being honored during a ceremony on Thursday, May 14, two K9s will be officially sworn in.

The annual ceremony is held in conjunction with National Peace Officer’s Memorial Week. This year, the awards will be given during part of the City of South Lake Tahoe's 50th Anniversary celebration.

Counterfeit ring broken up in El Dorado County

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies arrested five Bay Area residents on Thursay who are accused of being part of a counterfeit credit card ring.

On April 30, 2015 at about 1:00 p.m., deputies responded to Red Hawk Casino for a fraudulent use of a credit card. Red Hawk casino security reported two persons inside the casino attempted to use forged or stolen credit cards in an attempt to obtain cash. One was described as an adult Hispanic man and the other as an adult African American woman.

North Lake Tahoe woman arrested on suspicion of $850,000 embezzlement

A 61-year-old Carnelian Bay woman has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling more than $850,000 from a business in Incline Village.

Washoe County sheriff's deputies say Pamela Kircher was arrested Thursday in the case involving an Incline Village business. She is accused of embezzling the money over a seven-year period.

Investigators declined to identify the business, but say Kircher most recently worked as a housekeeper at various locations in Incline Village. The victims became suspicious of Kircher late last year and contacted the Sheriff’s Office to investigate.

Driver involved in deadly crash may have been going 90 mph

An investigation continues into the South Lake Tahoe accident that claimed the life of a local 21-year old woman and sent two people to Reno hospitals with serious injuries.

Aimee Campos died after a car driven by 20-year old Olga Penaarce, also of South Lake Tahoe, crashed at the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Edna Street early Monday morning. 25-year old Wayne Walker of Sacramento was also a passenger in the car.

Three land in jail after Tuesday brawl in South Lake Tahoe

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to a brawl in progress at the mid-town Jack in the Box on Tuesday afternoon. When they arrived they found two men and a woman confronting a man. The suspects had a bat and a slungshot (homemade weapon with a weight on the end of a rope) on them according to Detective Doug Sentell of the SLTPD. Sentell said that even though a bat was present it wasn't used on the victim.

Gangs are a problem in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe may be a small city of around 23,000 residents but it isn't immune to the big city problems of gangs.

Our mountain hamlet has white gangs, a black gang, hispanic gangs, motorcycle gangs and even white supremacists and sometimes they cross racial lines in order to beef up numbers. The gang names won't be mentioned in this article because of the advertising value it would give them as they try and recruit children and new members.

Last week's arrest of three gang members for a home invasion robbery brought the comment to the forefront..."Tahoe has gangs?"
