New South Lake Tahoe resort plans unveiled
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/28/2018 - 8:52pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In 2008 it was known as "The Hole" after financing dried up for a redevelopment project, bordered by Highway 50, Stateline Avenue, Friday Avenue and Cedar Avenue. A cement hole with rebar stayed until the project area could get under control of one owner through bankruptcy. In 2013, Owens Financial obtained a building permit to start spending $400 million to build over 27,000 square feet of commercial space along Highway 50. This was followed by the Zalanta Resort opening at Highway 50 and Friday Avenue in 2017.

He was the first born child of Charles and Florence Engstrom McClure in Martinez, Calif., on October 7, 1050. Soon after, they moved to San Francisco, they lived in the student housing quonset huts while Charles got his teaching degree. Four years later they moved to San Anselmo, in Marin County, where the family lived in an Asian pagoda style home until 2016.

The final round of the AMA National Championship Series is coming to Lake Tahoe on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Hard Rock Casino Resort in their back parking lot.
Gates open at 1:00 p.m., practice starts at 2:00 p.m. and the race starts at 3:00 p.m. The race will end before 7:00 p.m. The awards ceremony will be held in Vinyl at Hard Rock from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Viewing ticket prices are free for kids under 5, $10 for ages 6-12 and $15 for adults.

South Lake Tahoe man facing charges of assaulting roommate with shotgun
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/14/2018 - 2:14pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) has arrested a 34-year-old local man on charges stemming from an incident March 12 where he is suspected of firing a shotgun at his roommate.
At about 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, SLTPD dispatch received a 911 call of a possible disturbance and gunshot in the 3700 block of Aspen Avenue. Officers arrived and attempted to located the source of the gunshot. The blocked off Aspen Avenue hear Wildwood Avenue in the process.

This purchase now gives DiamondRock four resorts in California including the Hotel Rex in San Francisco and the Westin San Diego. The Landing will be added to their portfolio which also includes L'Auberge de Sedona in Arizona, Vail Marriott Mountain Resort & Spa and several other Marriott and Westin properties.

This series will be held weekly on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. beginning April 16, 2018, and ending May 21, 2018, at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.

Women's March in South Lake Tahoe draws almost 400
Submitted by paula on Sat, 01/20/2018 - 7:01pmIt may have just been planned in the last two weeks, but the 2018 Women's March in South Lake Tahoe drew out 392 women, men and children to join hundreds of thousands of others marching around the country.
"The turnout was phenomenal," said co-organizer Meg Peart. "Its amazing how quickly our community can come together."
Peart and Kelsey Adams took an idea and reached out to the community through Facebook, friends and local news to get people out to walk the just over two mile route from Hard Rock Hotel and Lakeview Commons.

For nearly four decades, the volunteers of this organization have driven patients from South Lake Tahoe to their medical treatment, at no charge to the patients or their families. The drivers take patients to Reno, Carson City, Minden, Truckee, and as far away as UC Davis. The Cancer League also gives limited monetary assistance in the form of small grants to the patients to help with their monthly expenses.

Almost one year ago almost five million women, men and children gathered around the world to participate in the Women's March on Washington on the same day President Trump was being inaugurated.
They gathered to stand together in their protest of reproductive rights, equal pay, safety for women in the workplace and more. They stood against racism, sexism, sexual assault and harassment. They stood against Trump and his policies that were racist, anti-LGBT and anti-women.

Executive Chef Charles Wilson was amazed at the view from the resort that sits on the shore of Lake Tahoe.
“One of the reasons I’m here is this property,” Wilson said. “Walking into the Great Room and looking out the windows was the moment. The culinary team’s job is to match the ambiance of the resort, and this setting is truly spectacular.”

Deadly holiday in Las Vegas: Two casino security guards shot to death

The killings at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur marked the fourth double homicide and the fifth multiple homicide investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department this month.
Since Dec. 22 alone, Metro has investigated 12 homicides, all but one resulting from gun violence. But over the same stretch, the valley has had 15 homicides, including the deaths of three people inside a North Las Vegas home Thursday.
South Lake Tahoe nonprofits benefit from STAR; $15,000 given away

STAR is comprised of Edgewood Companies, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, Harrah’s/Harveys Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, Lakeside Inn and Casino, MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, and Vail Resorts. The companies work collaboratively on community economic and sustainability issues, including a charity component.

LTCC awarded $500k for culinary pre-apprenticeship program

LTCC was recently notified of the award, which will be used to help better prepare South Lake Tahoe’s workforce and to improve local residents’ ability to secure in-demand jobs and progress to higher-wage careers in the Tahoe Basin.
Retired South Lake Tahoe K9 Duke passes
Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/17/2017 - 9:48pmRetired South Lake Tahoe K9 Duke has passed away according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Canine Association. During his years of service he was responsible for the seizure of almost half a million dollars cash and countless narcotics detection arrests. He had numerous street suspect apprehensions, none of which were ever challenged in criminal or civil court according to his handler, Tony Broadfoot.
Duke had been trained by the Dutch Police in Belgium prior to coming to South Lake Tahoe in December of 2005.

Power outage hits South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley

* * *
NV Energy is reporting a few power outages to their customers starting at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. At the lake, 4,385 customers are affected, with another 3,300 in the Carson Valley. NV Energy states the problem is from equipment failure and they expect to have power restored by 10:00 p.m.

Someone called in a suspicious person report to the University of Nevada (UNR) Police Department. They contacted Jose DeJesus Rodriguez-Quezada, 44, sleeping on the sidewalk near the UNR Agricultural Ranch area on East McCarran Boulevard.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the person associated with a homicide that was reported on at 5:00 .a.m. that evening.
Kevin LeRoy Edwards of Dublin, Calif. and Reno, Nev. was 56-years-old at the time of his murder.

Collapsed building getting new roof and new look
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/05/2017 - 10:26pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work crews have been busy at the historic Pioneer Center on Harrison Avenue where a roof collapsed on January 23, flooding out the liquor store and thrift shop beneath it.
Hoyt Holmes of H.W. Holmes Incorporated has been hired to rebuild the structure which will have a smaller version of the liquor store and a new retail/coffee shop space as well as the existing Port-of-Subs, Sierra Veterinary Hospital, Rojo's and Jalisco's.
Holmes said the new roof will be up by October 31 and construction should be complete around the beginning of 2018.
Man found dead at Hard Rock Hotel in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/04/2017 - 12:11pmSTATELINE - A man was found dead at a south shore Lake Tahoe casino hotel room Tuesday night with the suspect in the killing at large, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).
The crime happened at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Lake Tahoe and the suspect is an adult female, according to the sheriff’s office.
DCSO deputies responded to the Hard Rock at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, for a death investigation of a male in one of their rooms.

The public has another opportunity to give feedback on the design of the U.S. 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Formerly known as the Loop Road Project, this one seeks to divert Highway 50 from its current location near the intersection with Pioneer Trail and move traffic behind Raleys and the casinos, then reuniting with the current location of Highway 50 in Stateline, Nevada with a roundabout.
