SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) is bringing a free five-week-long Aging and Caregiver educational series to South Lake Tahoe from April 13 - May 11, 2020.

The series will provide instruction and support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member or friend aged 60 years or older.

The educational series will be held at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe, on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following dates:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 2nd annual Pink Heavenly will be held on Saturday, March 21 at Heavenly Mountain Resort. The Barton Foundation is inviting community members and visitors to register now and start fundraising for the fun event.

All proceeds from the slopeside fundraising event benefit Cancer Support Services at Barton Health, dedicated to improving the lives of community members fighting cancer.

With the March primaries just weeks away, voters will be considering not only their choices on the ballot but will also need to consider how they will cast their votes in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – Voters who have been mailed a postcard from the
El Dorado County Registrar of Voters Bill O’Neill indicating they are a "No Party Preference" may have to re-register.

“We are confident our mailing list of NPP voters is accurate, however, some voters may have had their party preference unknowingly changed as a result of automatic voter registration through the California Department of Motor Vehicles,” O’Neill said.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Jolly your way to the tippy-top of Ski Run Boulevard in your best, most festive Kris Kringle outfit on Sunday, December 15. This fun-filled jaunt from the Black Bear Lodge all the way up to the bar at Himmel Haus will benefit the local nonprofit, SOS Outreach.

Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase at the start and finish. A procession with city officer support will leave Black Bear Lodge at 3:30 p.m. A fun and lucrative raffle drawing will be during the after-party at Himmel Haus.

The South Lake Tahoe Library will host a two-night Adulting 101 series in December for those ages 15 to 25-year-old.

Each night of classes will cover the basic skills of growing up and becoming adults. In order to create an environment appropriate for teens and young adults, age limits will be enforced. The classes will be from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

On December 9, learn about and focus on financial planning. In this class, financial experts will teach the basics of budgeting, credit, and much more. Presented by Wells Fargo At Work.

Choices for Children of South Lake Tahoe is holding Parent Cafe, and evening with food, adult conversation and a chance for parents, grandparents, caregivers to get together and make connections. You are not alone in this journey.

The free evening on November 12 shows those interested in making their families stronger about the small, but significant changes that support not only them, but also the community, in their journey.

The Parent Cafe will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Cowork Tahoe which is located at 3079 Harrison Avenue #12. Childcare will be provided.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Signs highlighting suicide awareness have been placed around the campus of Lake Tahoe Community College, all in preparation for the third annual Awareness Walk: Emily's Walk for Hope on Saturday.

Walk organizer Lisa Utzig Schafer of the Suicide Prevention Network got the signs up in time for the college's new student celebration. The group is inviting the community to participate in the walk that focuses on remembering those lost to suicide and to help end the stigma surrounding suicide.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Four Minden residents were arrested after a three-month-long narcotics investigation into the trafficking of methamphetamine by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team (SET Team).

During the pre-dawn hours on Tuesday, September 10, SET was joined by members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team as well as the Tri-Net Narcotic Task Force as they served a search warrant at 1596 County Road in Minden, Nev.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Father John Grace, the name synonymous with St. Theresa Catholic Church from 1956 to his passing on May 4, 2019, will be honored with the Father Grace Memorial Golf Tournament on Thursday, August 29 at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

The Tri-County Job Fair is an annual event that serves the workforce needs of El Dorado, Sacramento and Placer counties, and connects job seekers with both small and large businesses from multiple industries that are actively recruiting employees.

The community is invited to join the Tahoe Chamber in their visit to Carson City on July 16 from noon to 5:00 p.m. to explore how Carson City leaders and community members successfully transformed and revitalized their downtown main street.

The developing Main Street Management Plan for South Lake Tahoe parallels much of what Carson City did, and those going on the trek will have the chance to learn about the history of Nevada project and how the current business climate of the area has improved since the highway realignment.

El Dorado County's HUB5*, which spans from Pollock Pines to South Lake Tahoe, is offering a free family workshop with focus on Infants and Toddlers on June 15th and June 22nd from 9am to 12pm. It is possible to only attend one portion but it is recommended to attend both. Refreshments and childcare will be provided. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Heading to the polls will soon have a different meaning to the voters of South Lake Tahoe and the rest of California as the one-day voting period ends and initiation of voting centers begin.

With the passage of SB450, the 2016 Voter's Choice Act, 11-day and 4-day voting centers are planned to begin in 2020 after being started in 2018 with pilot centers in five counties: Madera, Nevada, Napa, Sacramento and San Mateo. El Dorado County will start vote centers in the 2020 election pending approval from the Board of Supervisors.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Classes will begin soon for those interested in becoming a lifeguard or swim instructor in South Lake Tahoe. Offered by the American Red Cross, both classes are open to community members and will be taught at the Recreation and Swim Complex.

Between 12,000 and 14,000 small lakes are scattered throughout the Sierra Nevada. How is climate change affecting these remote mountain lakes? Recent research provides insight into the climate sensitivity of these water bodies and the influence of warming temperatures and a shrinking spring snowpack. Help spruce up our neighborhoods and Keep Tahoe Clean! The Clean Tahoe Program is organizing the 4th annual Spring Cleanup to remove litter from the South Lake Tahoe community on May 11.

The 30th annual Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra's (SITS) Elegant Evening is just one week away. On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, voters will be selecting their new District 1 State Senator, a vacancy created when Ted Gaines won a seat on the state Board of Equalization in November.

District 1 spans California’s northeastern corner from the Oregon border to Lake Tahoe, including some of the Sacramento area’s eastern suburbs. Residents living in Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, and Siskiyou Counties are in District 1 as well as parts of Placer County (Auburn, Colfax, Lincoln, Loomis, and Rocklin) and Sacramento County (Folsom, Orangevale, and Fair Oaks).

An eight-week course at Carson City's Western Nevada College campus will help participants develop more capacity to deal with short- and long-term stressors in life.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is starting March 26 and will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with an all-day retreat from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 4. The cost is $365.
