Spring Cleanup 2018 coming up in South Lake Tahoe

Help spruce up South Lake Tahoe neighborhoods and "Keep Tahoe Clean" on Saturday, May 12 during the 3rd annual Spring Cleanup day. Last year, 118 volunteers spent a morning picking up nearly 1,500 pounds of trash.

The Clean Tahoe Program and City of South Lake Tahoe are organizing the day, so get together with your friends, family and neighbors to remove litter from our community. Check-in at the cleanup locations will begin at 9:00 a.m. and volunteers will be assigned a stretch of road to clean. Afterwards, everyone will meet up at Bijou Park for a FREE lunch and celebration.

Over a dozen employers to be at South Shore job fair "Tahoe Works"

Run the Carson Valley Days parade route in 5k Fun Run

This is an opportunity for serious runners, walkers, joggers and families alike to “Run the Parade” route to help kick off the Carson Valley Days Parade. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is another chance to become part of the South Tahoe Action Team (STAT), a team that provides valuable assistance to the community during a disaster.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) is now accepting applications for the next four-week long STAT Class starting April 18, and continuing on April 25, May 2 and May 16. The Wednesday classes run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and participants must be able to commit to all four classes.

Two big tourism events coming to the South Shore

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The 10th annual Nevada Tribal Tourism Conference is heading to the South Shore, April 23-25, 2018 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Stateline. The theme this year is "Revitalizing Culture Through Tourism."

The conference is focused on strategies on how the southwest tribes in Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah can effectively share their rich history and culture with visitors from around the globe.

3rd Annual OMG Fun Run

"Be the Change" the focus of South Tahoe High rally on National Walkout Day

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The student body, teachers, staff of South Tahoe High School and community members came together Wednesday to be part of the National School Walkout and March For Our Lives, events held across the country one month after 17 students died in Parkland, Florida when a fellow student opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Empowerment Retreat for eighth grade girls

The Live Violence Free Girls Empowerment Retreat in South Lake Tahoe on March 28 is open to all eighth grade girls.

This retreat encourages eighth grade girls to explore self-worth, care, leadership and sisterhood, to move forward into freshman year feeling connected with their peers, and strong in their own capabilities. The day is structured with lessons, activities, games, food, and most of all: fun!!

The retreat is FREE for participants.

Tahoe Chamber taking group to Italy; Learn how to join them

The Tahoe Chamber is going on the trip of a lifetime, and you are invited. A nine-day trip to Northern Italy and the beautiful Italian lakes will depart on October 15, 2018.

California State Parks seeking volunteers for Earth Day work at Grover Hot Springs

The 20th annual Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup is taking place at 40 parks up and down the state of California on Saturday, April 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The closest park with a project the public can work on is Grover Hot Springs.

Work there will be to continue maintenance of, and improvements to, the Native Plant Demonstration Garden including irrigation and weed removal, Grover Meadow invasive weed removal and landscape enhancements such as trash pickup, raking, clearing fire rings.

Volunteers needed for new coed Sea Scout Ship program

The South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club is sponsoring a new Sea Scout Ship for high school students and they are looking for five adult volunteers over the age of 21 to help. Local youth will learn small boat handling, sailing, wooden boat care and cruising.

There will be an adult training session on Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m.

Aging and Caregiving educational series in South Lake Tahoe

Join El Dorado County's team in the 1 Billion Steps Challenge which tracks participant's steps through apps from January 1 to April 8, 2018.

The challenge is through the American Public Health's Associations (APHA) who are encouraging Americans to get out and walk, roll and get moving. Tahoe Chamber's Connect for a Cause Charity Mixer benefits Bread & Broth 4 Kids

Tahoe Chamber's annual Connect for a Cause charity mixer will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Once again, this year's recipient will be Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K).

Last year, over 100 people attended the event and raised almost $1,300 for the non-profit that serves over 170 kids in grades K-8 weekly with a backpack full of food to take home each when free school lunches are not available.

Lake Tahoe Marathon events around the lake; Some road closures

The kickoff events are now in the record books, and racers are now preparing for the rest of Lake Tahoe Marathon week to get started. Please note, State Route 89 will be closed to vehicle traffic in each direction around Emerald Bay from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 15 during the Lake Tahoe Marathon. Motorists should be aware of runners along the highway from Homewood to South Lake Tahoe.

Three cited in underage alcohol sting in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Three local employees were cited by a recent decoy operation to catch people selling alcohol to minors.

On September 28, 2017, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, through a grant form the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), conducted the minor decoy operation where minors under their supervision attempted to purchase alcohol from 19 different establishments.

National Brotherhood of Skiers to hold next summit at Squaw Valley

The National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS) has selected Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows to host its next NBS Black Summit. The Summit serves as both the organization’s annual gathering of members and largest fundraiser. More than 800 NBS members and 300 guests from throughout the US and beyond are expected to attend the annual event. The week-long event will run March 3-10, 2018.

Tahoe Chamber holding Cannabis Workshop for employers

The Tahoe Chamber is offering a workshop for employers concerning their policies and procedures on handling cannabis in the workplace on Wednesday, September 20 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in their conference room.

Recent changes to state laws in California and Nevada legalizing the recreational use of cannabis have led to confusion among employers. One key question is whether employers are required to accommodate an employee's use or possession of cannabis at the workplace.

The 15th annual Tour de Tahoe, which is also known as Bike Big Blue Ride, is Sunday, September 10. Ride the 72 miles around the lake which include a challenging 800-foot climb to a rest stop overlooking Emerald Bay and a 1,000 foot climb to Spooner Junction.

The 5th Annual Tahoe Mountain Bike and Brew Festival will be held on August 26-27 in Meyers and celebrates the "perfect pairing" of mountain biking and beer, all headquartered at the The Divided Sky, Meyers.

Teens arrested at In-N-Out after Placerville robbery at Payless Shoe Source

Deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) arrested two juveniles in Placerville on August 8 after a robbery at the Payless Shoe Store on Missouri Flat Road.

Just before 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, the two allegedly entered the store and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. One of the two males had a knife. They then fled on foot.

A short time after the deputies located the teens at In-N-Out Burger and they were arrested.

According to EDSO, witnesses and the victim identified the teens as those who committed the crime as did video surveillance.

Eyes on the Lake volunteer training

There is an upcoming fun opportunity to help protect Lake Tahoe at the next Eyes on the Lake training with the League to Save Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, August 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

As part of the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program, Eyes on the Lake is returning through September 2017. League staff will host trainings all summer where you can learn how to identify and report aquatic invasive plants found in Tahoe’s lakes and streams and help to Keep Tahoe Blue.

California Energy Standards residential review course for contractors

Emily's Walk for Hope to bring awareness to suicide prevention

The July 4 parade will start at 10:00 a.m. at the "Y," where Highways 50 and 89 intersect, and follow Highway 50 to Al Tahoe Boulevard and end at Bijou Park where a family friendly After Party will take place immediately following the conclusion of the parade. There will be a BBQ at the party with all proceeds going to the American Legion.
