There were several areas through South Lake Tahoe that experienced flooding on Tuesday as rain from an atmospheric river hit the region, with two Meyers area streets getting the brunt of the storm.

Lake Tahoe weather: Heavy rain, winds and flooding in forecast

Ski resorts benefited from the snow left behind during the most recent storm which left a couple of inches of slushy snow at lake level, but 7" to a foot of snow at local ski areas.

The next wave of the storm will hit Lake Tahoe Monday night when the snowfall is replaced with heavy rainfall. The warmer storm will bring a higher risk of flooding to the region, especially to the mountains and foothill locations. The latest storm moves into the Sierra late Wednesday, February 1, bringing moderate to heavy snow by Thursday morning at higher elevations. National focus on South Lake Tahoe's snowpack during Operation Sierra Storm

The annual television meteorologist's conference, Operation Sierra Storm (OSS), couldn't have happened at a better time to bring the national spotlight to early January's storms fondly nicknamed Snowmageddon and Januburied.

Jim Cantore and Paul Goodloe, leading correspondents at The Weather Channel, both broadcast live from Heavenly Mountain Resort and showcased South Lake Tahoe’s powder-filled ski conditions for two days, eight hours each day during the historic snowfall January 10-13, 2017.

January storm water flows through STPUD double 4th of July, but not record breaking

Rain and snow flows during the atmospheric river storm that hit South Lake Tahoe in January created more than double the normal flow through the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD).

On a normal 4th of July, when most beds are filled in local homes and motels, STPUD sees about five million gallons go through the sewer plant, but with the large amounts of snow and rain on roads and in yards, 12.57 million gallons flowed through the plant on January 8, 2017.

Weak to moderate atmospheric river, warm temps headed to Lake Tahoe

Mild weather with above average daytime temperatures is settled over South Lake Tahoe, but it won't last long as a new systems hits the Lake Tahoe Basin at the end of the week.

This system will have a period of gusty winds on Thursday with ridges seeing gusts near 100 mph and valleys up to 45 mph.

Lake Tahoe at highest since 2013; Over 66 billion gallons of water added in 2017

After a series of storms fondly dubbed by South Lake Tahoe locals as "Januburied" and "Snowmaggedon" hit the Lake Tahoe region in January, the water levels in the lake have risen to the highest levels since 2013.

As of January 28, 2017, Lake Tahoe is at an elevation of 6225.08, 2.08 feet above its natural rim of 6,223 feet above sea level. The lake is considered full at the legal limit of 6,229.1 ft, so there is still quite a big of storage left, 482,400 acres of water to be exact.

South Lake Tahoe Mayor Sass: Snow removal, fire code, state of emergency and more

It’s been great seeing all of my friends and acquaintances who have lived here for less than 10 years posting photos and sharing how Snowmageddon 2017 has blown them away. I did the same when I first moved to Tahoe back in the 70’s and storms like this were not uncommon. Back then playing was more important than clearing the snow. I had a big Dodge Ram 4x4 pickup and I j drove over the snow in my driveway and packed it down. I did not own a snowblower and can’t remember shoveling much. One year the packed snow was so high I could not get the truck under the carport.

Tahoe RCD records largest stormwater flows at monitoring sites during recent storm

South Lake Tahoe, Calif. - The January 7, 2017 storm that hit the Sierra Nevada and brought with it over 5 inches of rain before several feet of snow, also brought along some records, too.

The Tahoe Valley site, located off Tahoe Keys Blvd., measured 1.5 million cubic feet of flow, nearly 90 percent of the flow that was observed throughout the whole 2016 water year!

What a difference a week makes!

As 2017 started, the Lake Tahoe basin and the rest of the Sierra Nevada were looking at a less than spectacular snowpack.

Frank Gehrke, chief of the California Cooperative Snow Surveys Program, measured the snow at Phillips (near Sierra-at-Tahoe) on January 3 and found the snow water equivalent of the snow at that location at 53 percent of normal.

Today, the Sierra snowpack is between 195-205 percent of average and the water content is 163 percent of average.

With nine to 15-feet of snow falling in upper elevations, and up to eight feet at lake level, things have turned around.
