New Vacation Home Rental ordinance passes City Council

It was a wonderful night that included live music, corn hole and tours through the new property, which include rooftop patios and an Airstream trailer. The bar and beer garden are officially open to the public so make it a priority to visit this summer!

How Leadership Lake Tahoe changed my life

What started as an annual joint venture between the two Chambers of Commerce that served the South Shore is now a biennial leadership experience.
I was a member of Leadership Lake Tahoe in 2006 and I can say that it changed my life.
Routes around South Tahoe Middle School may soon be safer

Because of this, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District secured a $154,000 grant from the TRPA On Our Way program to work with the Lake Tahoe Sustainability Collaborative to conduct outreach and develop a connectivity and mobility plan for the area.

Do-It-Yourself BMPs for Lake Tahoe residents and contractors

Due to limited grant funding, this will be the last year the workshops for both the contractor and the do-it-youselfers will be held. The workshops will also be the last time businesses can qualify for the BMP Installation Service Providers List by having at least one supervisor per business attend.

South Lake Tahoe Middle School Connectivity Plan update

The goal has been to create safer, more walkable and bikeable off highway routes around South Tahoe Middle School (STMS), Bijou Park and Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC). A $150,000 grant from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to the Lake Tahoe Unified School District got the activity in motion.

Lake Tahoe Water Trail to receive $50,000 in upgrades
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/05/2015 - 11:31pmThe California Tahoe Conservancy Board unanimously voted today to award Sierra Business Council (SBC) $50,000 to expand and enhance the Lake Tahoe Water Trail.
The Lake Tahoe Water Trail is the 72-mile scenic paddling route around the shore of Lake Tahoe. SBC plans to improve trail maps; increase wayfinding, trailhead signage, and outreach and education; launch a Lodge-to-Lodge Network; and establish a new Oversight Committee to develop a business plan to create a more sustainable program.

Significant drops in school suspensions and expulsions in State and South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 01/14/2015 - 11:42pmCalifornia State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson today announced a dramatic 20 percent drop in the number of students expelled in 2013-14 and a 15.2 decline in the number of students suspended. This marks the second year in a row of declines in both areas.
Numbers at Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) follow the same trend.

The Parks, Trails and Recreation Master Plan has identified the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex for future renovation, but exactly how that renovation will look is up to the public.

Opinion: Is Meyers a community willing to work together?

What happened at the TPRID meeting was a sad display of a board in action. There was yelling, arguing and, what one person witnessing everything said, “don’t air your dirty laundry in a meeting like this.”
Locals help find safer way to walk and bike to South Tahoe Middle School

From 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., school officials, staff from Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the Lake Tahoe Sustainability Mobility group and members of the public were stationed at locations on the streets around the school to monitor traffic, car speeds and safe routes the students were taking to get to school.

Backcountry explorers, wilderness leaders, ski resort employees and search and rescue personnel: prepare for the winter season by attending the California Avalanche Workshop at Lake Tahoe Community College on Saturday, October 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Board/Aspen Room. This is a rare opportunity to hear forecasters from all of the California avalanche centers speak and answer questions. In addition, ski guides, pro skiers, snow scientists, and avalanche survivors will present their findings.

For the first time in its 66 year history, the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (IKAR) will be coming to the USA for its annual Congress. Hosted by the US Mountain Rescue Association, the event will be held at Harvey’s Resort and Casino, Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
Douglas County Search and Rescue (SAR) is helping the host put on the conference which includes local hiking and tourist activities.

South Lake Tahoe Bag Ban Ordinance in Front of City Council Again

Food vendors/grocery stores in South Lake Tahoe have complied with a single use bag ban ordinance since January 15, 2014.
Many panicked business owners and residents expressed their reluctance at the time, afraid of unknown costs that might be involved as well as not having the convenience of plastic bags at check out.
If one looks at the attendance at the City's workshops for both residents and business owners on the subject, they'd assume everything is working out due to lack of participation.

UB is the newest TRiO grant at Lake Tahoe Community College and is designed to provide fundamental support to high school students in their preparation for college. UB serves 60 students who are from low-income families, who are potentially the first in their families to go to college, or students who are at risk of academic failure.

El Dorado County led the state in 2013 with an estimated 79% of families reading to their children on a daily basis according to Children Now, a national organization for people who care about children and want to ensure that they are the top public priority.
