Projects for the Meyers community will be discussed tonight, Wednesday, April 18, at the Lake Valley Fire Protection District office. The Meyers Roundtable Committee will take up the following:
— Presentation of Road Runner Canopy Project
— Government reports
— Public Forum – discussions are to be no longer than 5 minutes per issue due to time constraints
All attendees are encouraged to park on Keetak Street due to limited on-site parking. The meeting will be held in the mobile unit located behind the fire station.
Meyers was first established in the 1850’s as a way station. In 1859 the station was sold to Yank Clement who renamed it Yank’s Station. From 1860 to 1861 it served as a remount station for the Pony Express and is listed as a California Historical Landmark.
Today, Meyers still functions as a way station for visitors and a gateway to the Lake Tahoe area. On October 27, 1993, TRPA adopted the Meyers Community Plan, which represented the future land use and development plan for the existing Meyers commercial district. The purpose of the plan was to serve as the comprehensive land use and development plan through 1997. The plan established goals and objectives, special policies, programs, and strategies for funding and implementation.
