LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - As the summer season gets underway, the Tahoe Fund and agencies that manage Lake Tahoe’s public beaches have updated TahoePublicBeaches.org to help improve the recreation experience for residents and visitors. Designed as a resource guide to over 40 beaches that surround the iconic shores of Lake Tahoe, the site offers information about frequented hotspots and lesser-known locations.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The City of South Lake Tahoe has embarked on a Broadband Feasibility Study to identify how the City can improve broadband and internet service and infrastructure. NEO Connect, a broadband consulting firm, has been retained to conduct the analysis and present recommendations. The City Council recognizes the importance of high-speed broadband to the community in order to improve employment, educational, and economic development opportunities. The study directly addresses the City Council’s Strategic Priority 1.1 “Broadband for All” initiative.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Get ready for a wild time as the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS), Great Basin Institute (GBI), and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) host Wild Tahoe Weekend! Lake Tahoe will take care of both of those and Steph, his dad Dell and brother Seth head to the South Shore for the 33rd annual American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe, July 8-10.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Fund and Friends of Ski Run announced on Tuesday the extension of their matching campaign for Ski Run Community Park. After meeting the initial $75,000 goal, the two organizations are now working toward a $100,000 match to build a custom bouldering wall in the park.

Wylder Resort Hope Valley continues its Eastern Sierra history series this coming Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. with a living history presentation by author and historian David Woodruff. This week, it is about "Snowshoe Thompson-Mailman of the Sierra.”

John “Snowshoe” Thompson carried the mail across the deep Sierra Nevada snow during the winter for 20 years. Carrying 80 pounds of mail over the 180-mile round trip in just five days on his hand-crafted snow skates (skis), with nothing more than a jacket, dried meat, and matches.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - The South Shore will soon have a new on-demand transit system serving the area from Al Tahoe Boulevard to the casino corridor. The launch of Lake Link, an app-based microtransit shuttle system will be on July 22.

Lake Link will be free to riders and will operate 365-days per year, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Funding for the shuttles is a collaboration of public and private partnerships, and is a requirement of the new events center at Stateline.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Summer is here at Lake Tahoe and that means more visitors recreating in bear habitat, which increases the chance of encountering a bear – or a family of bears. Increased visitation also brings more temptations for bears to discover human food and garbage sources.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 2022 Cannabis Revenue Grant Awards were announced during the South Lake Tahoe City Council on Tuesday. During a previous meeting, the Council approved $400,000 to be dispersed through a grant program, the amount being equal to half of the cannabis revenue received by the City last year.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The 2021/22 Grand Jury report on the El Dorado County jails and Juvenile Treatment Center (JTC) was released Monday, and they found no major issues at any of the three facilities.

They conducted its annual physical inspections of the sites in Placerville on January 5, 2022, and in South Lake Tahoe on November 10, 2021, including interviews with staff. It had been two years since a physical inspection was done as COVID-19 forced the inspections to be virtual in 2020-2021.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is seeking information about the whereabouts of 15-year-old Matthew Jimenez. The teen was last seen on June 8 near Lampe Park.

Matthew is 5'11, 140 lbs, and has black/brown hair.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on the 8th, Matthew was seen near Lampe Park and was spotted wearing a gray shirt, black shorts, an unknown color backpack, and a silver necklace, and was in possession of his electric bicycle.

Authorities believe that Matthew may be in the Indian Hills or Carson City area.

After a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Laureate Trail has returned to El Dorado County. A collaboration between Arts and Culture El Dorado and the El Dorado County Library, the Laureate Trail sees El Dorado County Poet Laureate Lara Gularte visit all six libraries in El Dorado County for free poetry readings, workshops, open mics, and more. Lara will be joined on the Trail by Poets Laureate past and future, as well as special guests, including the winner of the 2023 El Dorado County Poetry Out Loud competition.

Global religious statesman Rajan Zed was presented with “Interfaith Leadership & Vision Award” by Episcopal Church in Reno on June 19.

The Reverend Father Thomas W. Blake, Rector, Saint Catherine of Siena Episcopal Church in Reno, presented Zed with this Award, “for leveraging interfaith skills to increase cooperation and harmony among the diverse communities.”

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It took three weeks but temperatures at Lake Tahoe will finally be June-like! High pressure will once again exert its influence across the West, bringing a drying and warming trend to the region. Warming temperatures will be in store as a return to 80-degree heat returns in the week ahead. Along with the heat will be a potential for showers and thunderstorms as monsoonal attempts to creep back into the Sierra and western Nevada by the middle of the week.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Construction crews have wrapped up work on the Martin Slough Multimodal Trail project and it is now completed. The path connects Minden and Gardnerville and to Minden’s new fishing pond located south of Buckeye Road. The Martin Slough Trail is a great amenity for Douglas County as it offers residents and tourists alike a chance to enjoy the great outdoors on a paved trail and additionally provides a pathway for residents to utilize full bike and walking access to the Minden and Gardnerville downtown areas.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The bay area’s Renegade Orchestra is set to perform at the Valhalla Boathouse Theater on Aug 10 AT 7:30 p.m. This concert will feature an unconventional orchestra in a 1920’s concert venue, with Lake Tahoe as the backdrop.

The Renegade Orchestra describes itself as “throwing out all the old conventions of a quiet, sleepy, stuffy show of musicians locked in straight jackets of tradition.” This 9-piece ensemble gathers a set of virtuosic orchestra musicians and a hard-drivin’ rhythm section.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. Author Lori Howell Thompson, known for her book Living in Harmony with the Wildlife in Lake Tahoe, is hosting a fundraiser for the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, a golf tournament on August 20, 2022.

Participants will enjoy a tournament and reception starting at 11:30 a.m. with a putting contest, moving into a scramble with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. and outdoor buffet reception at 5:30 p.m.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: East Fork Professional Fightfighters have successfully knocked down the fire in Genoa. Officials are asking the public to keep the area clear as they continue to mop up.

UPDATE 5:30 p.m.: Jacks Valley Road remains closed in Genoa due to the fire. Crews are still on the scene.

UPDATE 3:40 p.m.: The Fire Incident Command is reporting they have a good handle on the fire. 1 unknown type of structure has burned. Avoid the area until all is cleaned up.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe was one of 25 small towns to be awarded a Hometown Grant from T-Mobile, and a check was presented to Mayor Devin Middlebrook in the amount of $50,000 to be used for the Ski Run Community Park.

T-Mobile representatives were at the site of the new park on Friday to not only present the check but to explain how the company's five-year, $25 million grant program will help the people and organizations who help small towns across America. They said the $50K check for the park is the largest grant they've issued as they are usually $25,000-$35,000.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe originally met with the owner of the Sunray Hotel on March 8, 2022, to address numerous complaints at the property, including multiple substandard code violations.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Four people were arrested in South Lake Tahoe early Thursday morning after law enforcement agents and officers executed three search warrants in both Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe.

The following four local residents were arrested today with a criminal complaint for their participation in trafficking methamphetamine and heroin in and around South Lake Tahoe:
