Renegade Orchestra heading to South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The bay area’s Renegade Orchestra is set to perform at the Valhalla Boathouse Theater on Aug 10 AT 7:30 p.m. This concert will feature an unconventional orchestra in a 1920’s concert venue, with Lake Tahoe as the backdrop.

The Renegade Orchestra describes itself as “throwing out all the old conventions of a quiet, sleepy, stuffy show of musicians locked in straight jackets of tradition.” This 9-piece ensemble gathers a set of virtuosic orchestra musicians and a hard-drivin’ rhythm section.

“The music we will be performing pushes a lot of boundaries with what an orchestra can do,” says conductor Jason Eckl, “although they are boundary-pushing, the music is familiar and more toe-tappin’ rock and roll than you normally find with an orchestral setting.

The Renegade Orchestra is set to perform works from diverse composers such as Nina Simone, Miles Davis, the Mamas and the Papas, and Donna Summer.

Cellist Rebecca Roudman says of her experience in the orchestra, “We all love the classical traditions, but now it’s time to let our hair down.”
