Solar Project No Short-Term Energy Panacea For Nevada Office Of Military
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 04/03/2012 - 3:58pmCARSON CITY – Nevada’s Office of the Military figured it would be money ahead after entering into a contract with a firm to build solar panels on three of its sites around the state to supply it with electricity.
But today officials with the office won approval from the state Board of Examiners to seek $46,284 from a legislative contingency fund to pay excess utility costs. The reason is because the solar energy being provided under the contract is costing the agency more than if it purchased electricity directly from NV Energy.

On Saturday a fast-moving weather front moved into the Lake Tahoe area, creating blizzard-like conditions. The storm caught visiting San Diego resident Robert Barber by surprise. He had gone for a walk into the woods off Kiowa Street in South Lake Tahoe and at around 2 p.m. as the storm intensified, he became disoriented due to almost zero visibility.

Authorities have arrested a Carmichael, Calif., man suspected in the 1980 South Lake Tahoe gas station robbery and murder of 16-year-old Richard Swanson.
After nearly 32 years, On March 28, Andrew Sanford, 50, was arrested and booked in the Sacramento County Jail for the alleged murder of Swanson. The robbery and homicide happened on Aug. 14, 1980 in South Lake Tahoe at what was then the Shell Gas Station located at the “Y” on the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd and Emerald Bay Road. Details of the case have been kept tightly under wraps.

Lake Tahoe resorts welcome spring with events and new snow

Spring is in the air at Lake Tahoe, and Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California and Kirkwood Mountain Resort are gearing up for spring skiing and riding with concerts, competitions and new snow. The three resorts each received between 12-21 inches of snow since Saturday, March 31, and March snowfall totals range from 110-146 inches.

More than 100 people attended the March 29 Open House event to learn about the Edgewood Tahoe Lodge Project, a 194-room LEED-designed hotel with significant environmental improvements located adjacent to the Edgewood Clubhouse. South Lake Tahoe police say they caught the man who allegedly robbed the Wells Fargo Bank located inside Raley’s Heavenly Village Shopping Center in South Lake Tahoe on March 29.
