After two years in business, Benson said she couldn't keep the doors open any longer due to multiple reasons - labor, taxes, insurance, cost of goods, delivery fees, and more. Those costs kept rising but revenue was dropping.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The winter of 2022-23 highlighted the traffic issue created by people driving to Heavenly Mountain Resort for a day on the slopes during a storm. Heavy snow, excess vehicles, and a lack of visible controls led to backups and cars parked wherever they pleased. The situation has been an issue for years, but the epic winter highlighted it more.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), the City of South Lake Tahoe, and officials at Heavenly worked together over the summer to create a plan that would hopefully eliminate the problems of last winter.

What a difference a year makes. This time last winter, many of us delighted in a promising snowpack, unaware that we were facing what would become the heaviest winter in more than 70 years. It was a tough one, even for some of us who survived the 1997 rain-on-snow disastrous winter. We got through it together, and 2023 had many bright spots with real progress for Lake Tahoe and our communities.

These homeowners live out of town and include those paying their mortgages for 30 years to perhaps retire here one day, and in the meantime vacation here summers and winters.

Where are the numerous articles from local businesses sounding off about not having enough employees who can afford to live locally? I’m sure there are some, just not the bulk of these articles. Maybe it’s just that the businesses voice their concerns through these other platforms.
