SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) has been working in partnership with Studio W Architects in the preparation and completion of its Facilities Master Plan. They have been working to identify and prioritize the numerous needs LTUSD says they have on facilities across South Lake Tahoe.
LTUSD will be hosting an interactive Facilities Master Plan Community Forum on March 15, 2022, in the South Tahoe High School Student Union from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Scientists will be gathering new data points and information during this time in the long-waged battle against aquatic invasive weeds in Lake Tahoe. The results will help determine long-term solutions for the lagoons and Lake Tahoe.

This brings the total of COVID-19 cases in the county to 26,482. This does not include all at-home tests that may have been positive. Case rates continue to drop.
There are now 10.2 new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents in the county, the lowest in weeks.

South Lake Tahoe teens represent area on the snow nationally and internationally

The three teens from South Lake Tahoe are making their presence known at the national level, and for the girls, they will be competing at the international level this week. Piper and Veda are headed to Leysin, Switzerland as members of the 2022 US Ski snd Snowboard Jr. World Championship team. Graydon continues his season at the USASA Nationals in Colorado.
When watching the winter Olympics in 2026 and/or 2030 you just might see these teens representing South Lake Tahoe and the U.S.

Man who escaped South Lake Tahoe jail arrested in Las Vegas
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/02/2022 - 10:29amEl Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) Investigations and the FBI Sacramento field office worked cooperatively to locate Ruben Zavala Garcia, who escaped from confinement at the El Dorado County South Lake Tahoe Detention Facility while on detail on November 23, 2021.
Zavala Garcia was arrested on Thursday, February 24, 2022, after being located by the Las Vegas FBI Fugitive Task Force.
The healing power of dogs at Barton Skilled Nursing

As COVID-19 progressed, the toll the pandemic restrictions had on residents began to take their toll, and Miranda Miller, the facility's activity director, knew she had to get some of the normalcy back that made it home to so many seniors.
While keeping in line with all the COVID-19 protocols. Miller decided it was time to safely bring the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) pet therapy teams back to her patients.

Transporters headed for Lake Tahoe can be connected to Tahoe Resource Conservation District boat inspectors to help facilitate and expedite the watercraft inspection process, and if needed, decontamination.

Parolee arrested after South Lake Tahoe search
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/01/2022 - 5:35pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On the morning of March 1, 2022, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was notified of Christopher Hendrickson, a parolee, who was possibly under the influence of a controlled substance and armed with a firearm, both things not allowed while on parole. The report they received said Hendrickson was on foot in the community.
Phillips Station snow pack measured at 68% of average; Mt. Rose at 86%
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/01/2022 - 4:29pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In their third snow survey of the season at Phillips Station near Sierra-at-Tahoe on March 1, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) measured 35 inches of snow depth and a snow water equivalent of 16 inches, which is 68 percent of average for this location for March.
The snow water equivalent measures the amount of water contained in the snowpack and is a key component of DWR’s water supply forecast. Statewide, the snowpack is 63 percent of average for this date.
Sean Donohoe found guilty of the murder of South Lake Tahoe gas station attendant

The jury of seven men and five women found Donohoe guilty of murder in the first degree and answered "true" to all three special allegations that he intentionally used a .45 caliber semi-automatic weapon in killing Singh.

Signups for Kiddie Kickers indoor soccer program at Kahle Community Center

The indoor soccer introductory program is for beginners, and emphasizes basic fundamentals, sportsmanship, and, most important of it all, having fun while learning the game.
Games will be played on Sundays between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from March 27 - May 15, 2022. Kids will be assigned to a team based on random selection.
To participate, kids must be age four by 4/1/22. The cost is $45 and includes a team t-shirt and an award.
Prescribed burn operations continue around Lake Tahoe Basin

These prescribed fires are expected to continue throughout the winter season to help land managers reduce hazardous fuels that can feed unwanted wildfires. Smoke will be present.

Senior dine-in meals resume in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County March 7

Dine-in meals will be served at senior nutrition congregate dining sites in Placerville, Pollock Pines, Greenwood, Pioneer Park, Cameron Park, and South Lake Tahoe from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Advance reservations will be required for the service.
The South Lake Tahoe dining site is located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The event was hosted by the Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club. Tuesday and Wednesday’s storm brought enough snow for an out and back course on groomed trails.
Results:
1st - Alek Simpson, 25, of South Lake Tahoe won the event in 27:19
2nd - Kevin Calhoun, 28, also of South Lake Tahoe in 36:04
3rd - Sean Finn, 17, of Carson City in 37:04.

Starting at that time, masks will no longer be required in schools in South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County, and districts across California, Oregon, and Washington.
The governors of each state, Newson, Brown, and Inslee, issued the joint statement on Monday.

storm is possible late Friday into Saturday with the potential for snow showers. Below-average temperatures with additional slider-type systems could continue into next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

There is possible financial relief ahead for those living in wildfire areas of California for fire-hardened homes and communities. State Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara announced new regulations through the “Safer from Wildfires” framework to protect existing homes and communities.
Nevada gaming revenues remain strong, South Shore "win" down slightly

The South Shore Lake Tahoe casino's win was down 4.39 percent over the same period with their gaming revenue of $17,067,309, according to the State's monthly gaming revenue report.
Last month's report showed over $18.5M in gaming revenue on the South Shore and $1.15M for the state of Nevada.

The North Tahoe Fire Protection District (NTFPD) has been incorporating many of these same elements, collaborating with communities to prepare for fire season.

El Dorado County restaurant defies injunction to close due to lack of health permit

On Friday, February 19, 2022, the court said no operations can resume until a health permit is obtained, but the restaurant has continued to be open, and according to their social media, plan on staying open.

What is it?
Hyundai's Santa Cruz, an 'almost-truck' aimed to capture buyers who don't need a full-sized, traditional truck. Based on a Hyundai Tucson crossover underneath, this unibody creation brings truck practicality and usefulness but aims to drive just like a normal car. It's supposed to be a truck for people that don't necessarily need nor want a truck. But, is it any decent, and does it have a place in the world?

COVID-19 daily cases for South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County

This brings the total of COVID-19 cases in the county to 26,386. This does not include all at-home tests that may have been positive. Case rates continue to drop.
There are now 15.3 new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents in the county, the lowest since the beginning of the Omicron variant.
