Those celebrating Leap Day birthdays and anniversaries in South Lake Tahoe include siblings

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Every trip around the sun is not exactly 365 days, so once every four years the calendar gets adjusted with "Leap Day." Ancient astronomers knew this but it took until the year 45 B.C. to add that extra day to the calendar. Julius Caesar declared that year to be "Ultimus annus confusions," the last year of confusion.

We're not sure about the confusion part ending though.

February 29 is Leap Day, and it only shows up on the calendar once every four years - the same year as the Summer Olympics and presidential election.

Liberty encourages customers to prepare for the approaching winter weather

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Liberty encourages customers to prepare for the approaching winter weather.

Severe winter weather has been forecast starting Thursday, February 29, and is expected to last through Sunday, March 3. The high winds and heavy snow may produce hazardous conditions and increase the potential for power outages. Tahoe has a housing problem. This is the one thing that we can all agree on.

Our community is leaving town at increasing rates as they continue to get priced out. “Locals for Affordable Housing” has been very vocal in publicly advocating for what they claim is a solution: a vacancy tax.

It is not. The truth is, those in our community who need housing solutions the most would be hurt significantly if this tax measure passed.

According to tribal elders, there is no distinction between the health of the land and the health of the Washoe. People and communities continue to form long-lasting connections to Lake Tahoe today. As the connections have deepened, the health of the lake and the very well-being of our communities have become inextricably interconnected.
