SnowGlobe Festival early bird and advance tickets sell out; 3-day and VIP passes on sale

The folks over at SnowGlobe Music Festival report that the advance and early bird tickets for the Dec. 29 through New Year's Eve concerts have sold out. But there are plenty of tickets remaining for the regular 3-day and VIP passes, according to the website.

Tamarack Lodge at Heavenly Receives LEED Environmental Certification

Tamarack Lodge is the first LEED-certified, on-mountain building at Lake Tahoe. Voters approve Measure R, two new STPUD board members

It expands the South Lake Tahoe Recreational Facilities Joint Powers Authority's use of Measure S funds to include the renovation of bike trails and makes improvements to ball fields. Forest Service continues prescribed burns along Kingsbury Grade

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews are scheduled to resume prescribed fire operations on Kingsbury Grade near South Shore and on the West Shore near the Tahoe Heights area today, Wednesday, Nov. 9, weather permitting. Both project areas are small, approximately two acres. Operations may continue through the week.
Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from these prescribed fire project areas. Smoke may be visible on Highway 207 on Kingsbury Grade and on Highway 89 on the West Shore.
September casino revenue declines
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 11/09/2011 - 7:27amNevada casino winnings declined nearly 6 percent in September over 2010 figures, with South Shore Lake Tahoe down 14 percent, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reports. Carson Valley casinos, which include Carson City, saw a slight decline at 2.54 percent.
Statewide Nevada casinos report a 5.8 percent decrease compared to September 2010.

California is expected to see a boost in its local mountain economies as a result of a new legislation that now permits year-long recreation opportunities on U.S. Forest Service ski areas. The Ski Area Recreational Opportunity Enhancement Act of 2011, which was signed by President Barack Obama on Nov. 7, is estimated to create and annually sustain up to 600 extra jobs nationwide.
