Family identifies man who died at Cascade Falls

UPDATE: 9:15PM: A 23-year-old Bay Area man who died on Saturday after slipping on ice and plunging about 150 feet near Cascade Falls, has been identified by family members as Michael James Machell of El Cerrito, Calif.

Small fires break out near Vikingsholm, Upper Echo Lakes area

Fire crews responded to two fires this afternoon, one near the boat ramp at Vikingsholm and the other in the Upper Echo Lakes area. Both fires were reportedly small and didn't pose immediate hazard.
A Lake Valley Fire Protection District captain said that crews were sent to the Vikingsholm fire at around 3 this afternoon after a power line went down. The status of the fire was it was about a 10 foot by 10 foot fire and was reportedly knocked down.

Windy conditions Sunday ahead of midweek weather changes

A major pattern change next week should finally bring snow to Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
In the photo illustration above, the first three images show the jet stream and large scale (synoptic) pattern changes forecast to take place over the Eastern Pacific Ocean next week. The persistent high pressure ridge that had kept most of the West Coast abnormally dry this winter is forecast to amplify and retrograde allowing the Sub-Tropical Jetstream to bring strong winter storms back to the Sierra. The fourth image shows a significant amount of moisture that should prompt the storms at the end of next week.
