High winds expected Sunday prompt Forest Service fire alert

Fire personnel in the Lake Tahoe Basin have been put on alert for this Sunday because of the possibility of strong winds that could cause a wildland fire to intensify and spread rapidly. Lack of rain or snow has already pushed the fire danger level back to high, and the Forest Service is urging the public to use caution with activities that could start a fire, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

Lakeview Commons Project Update

The project will also improve the visual appearance of the surrounding built environment and provide visitors and residents with a world-class open space and civic gathering place. The project will be the centerpiece of the community's efforts to develop a sustainable and vibrant environment and economy.

Forest Service OKs South Shore Lake Tahoe fuels reduction

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has approved a project that will reduce wildfire risk to communities on Lake Tahoe's South Shore and restore the health of the area's forests. The South Shore Fuel Reduction and Healthy Forest Restoration Project will thin trees and brush on more than 10,000 acres of national forest system land from the Nevada state line to Cascade Lake.

TRPA announces Code Cleanup Public Workshops

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency will host two public workshops to help orient customers to the reorganization of TRPA’s Code of Ordinances, which will go into effect on March 1, 2012.
