The state assembly rejected the bill that was a pilot program to allow bars in West Hollywood, San Francisco, and Palm Springs to extend the final call for alcohol at bars, clubs, and restaurants to 4 a.m. on weekends, and 3 a.m. on weekdays.
El Dorado County supervisors fail to approve new navigation center and homeless shelter

Construction was slated to begin on September 8.

It will also feature cultural displays, kids' activities, food trucks, vendor booths, and more.
Attempted carjacking in South Lake Tahoe lands man in jail on multiple charges
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/24/2022 - 9:51pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Sunday on charges stemming from an alleged attempted carjacking on Julie Lane.
According to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), Jason Jacobsen, 40, approached a person sitting in his vehicle. The two men did not know each other and SLTPD says Jacobsen started kicking the victim's vehicle, resulting in several dents. Jacobsen opened the car door, and allegedly assaulted the victim sitting in the driver's seat.
Harmful algal blooms around Lake Tahoe - caution warnings issued

If you've been at the beaches of Lake Tahoe recently, you'll notice something that isn't normal - algae, and lots of it. Experts are warning residents and visitors to be on the lookout for harmful algal blooms (HABs) in bodies of water in the greater Tahoe area.
No area is in the danger zone at this time, but people and dogs using the following areas should take caution:

California collects $257M in second quarter cannabis tax revenues

This includes California’s cannabis excise tax, which generated $141.3 million; the cultivation tax, which generated $25.8 million; and $108.1 million in sales tax revenue from cannabis businesses. This figure does not include locally imposed taxes collected by the cities and counties of the state, nor does it include outstanding returns.

Autopsy confirms the body found in Prosser Creek Reservoir was that of Kiely Rodni

An autopsy was conducted Monday and the Nevada County Sheriff-Coroner identified the decedent as Kiely Rodni. She had been missing for over two weeks after attending a party with 200-300 teens and young adults at a nearby campground.
Woman sitting on curb hit by vehicle at Lake Tahoe - driver arrested, victim airlifted

At approximately 9:43 p.m., multiple calls to the 9-1-1 system were received. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to the report of a person being struck by a truck near the road's intersection with Stateline Avenue behind Harvey's Lake Tahoe during the Robert Plant-Alison Kraus concert. Several bystanders had rushed to assist after the collision.

The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra chartered and held the first Aktion Club of Lake Tahoe meeting in August 2012. This is a community service group open to all adults living with disabilities. More than anything, people living with disabilities want to be treated like everyone else. They want to show they have value, to get out and give back. Aktion Club inspires its members to take on leadership roles, play a part, and do things that really make a difference.

Between 7-11 and the National 9 Motel, these lots were part of the Loop Road route plans from the current highway to behind Raley's.

DCSO investigating third-party report that there would be a shooting at Douglas High Monday

In a message to parents, DCSD Superintendent Keith Lewis said said the school's resource officers and DCSO Sheriff Dan Coverly are investigating a third-party report that an individual was told not to attend the first day of school due to a planned school shooting.
If students choose not to attend school due to this situation, their attendance will be excused.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/21/2022 - 7:39pmMONDAY Update: During a joint press conference in Truckee Monday, law enforcement said it is likely the body found in Prosser Creek Reservoir is that of missing 16-year-old Kiely Rodni. An autopsy is being conducted on Tuesday.
The non-profit dive recovery team, Adventures With Purpose, said they found Rodni's submerged vehicle in 14 feet of water on Sunday, April 21.
Nevada County Sheriff Shannon Moon said they believe the body is that of Kiely, but they will wait for the autopsy to confirm identity.

Records aren't expected to be broken, but highs will be close. Typical afternoon breezes are expected through the week with mild overnight temperatures, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. The monsoonal moisture that was in the region over the past two weeks should stay to the east as high pressure moves in that direction.

For the City, gross receipts from January through March were 14 percent above the first sales period in 2021, mainly due to an increase in causal dining receipts. For the unincorporated area of El Dorado County, gross receipts during the same time period were 19 percent above the same three-month period in 2021.

Some dispersed camping sites along Blue Lakes Road to close during meadow restoration project
Submitted by paula on Fri, 08/19/2022 - 2:38pmAmerican Rivers, in partnership with the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District, will start the first phase of the Faith Valley Meadow Restoration Project in mid-August. The project is in Alpine County near the junction of State Route 88 and 89 and adjacent to Blue Lakes Road. During this work, some popular dispersed camping sites along Blue Lakes Road will be closed as they will be used as staging areas for storage and equipment.

The El Dorado County Election's Office will be sending out a notice to all districts without the minimum number of candidates running for office in the next week or so, giving those districts time to submit the names of those they want to fill the spot. NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Custom drone light shows over Lake Tahoe are planned to help celebrate Labor Day weekend and the end of summer in Kings Beach and Tahoe City this year. The shows, postponed from Independence Day due to unseasonable weather, will take place after the final concerts of the summer in both locations.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Shops at Heavenly Village has partnered with the South Tahoe Chamber to provide the largest free trick or treat event for kids on the South Shore complete with a $1000 costume contest on Halloween, October 31, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“It is vital to have a safe trick or treat for kids in our community," said Gary Casteel - CEO Trans Sierra Investments, The Shops at Heavenly Village. "I am very proud of all the shops and organizations who volunteered and agreed to pass out candy for the kids. It is truly going to be an incredible event.”

The first-generation HR-V has sold tremendously well in the United States, being a top choice for those wanting to spend under $30,000 on an economical vehicle, but want to sit a little higher. SR-89 in Alpine County expected to reopen by 6 p.m. Thursday
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/18/2022 - 10:19amALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - Good news for the residents of Markleeville was announced during a special meeting Thursday - SR-89 should reopen by 6 p.m. on August 18. There will be one-way controlled traffic with a red light for the immediate future. It will be the same control light situation as what was in place prior to the mudflow and heavy rains on August 3.
Crews have placed native backfill material under the road, and the final structural finishes are happening Thursday morning which include two feet of an aggregate base with an 11-inch top of hot-mix asphalt.
